Tom was one of a handful of individuals that completely changed my life. It is largely due to him that I moved from Ohio to Minnesota in 1976 to pursue a PhD. "All you need to do is get some signatures" I recall him telling me as the Department Chair. Of course, getting those signatures is another story. I will always be grateful that I met Tom and for everything that he did for me. I am honored to have known such a wonderful person.

Lorna,

Claire and I were shocked and saddened by the news of Tom's passing. Tom was a long time colleague and we served together in many roles in APICS, over the past 30 years. He worked tirelessly to promote the education of professionals in our field. We will always cherish our memories of the wonderful visit to China, which he lead. You are your family are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time, and may God give you the comfort that he lived a long and purposeful life, and the helped make the world a better place.

Tom was a good fisherman, a gentleman and one of the three or four PhD's that have crossed my path in about 70 years that truly had enough sense to come out of the rain...mainly because the lightning was starting to sparkle off the tips of our fishing rods. I will miss him.

It was my pleasure and a privilege to work with Dr. Hoffman in the APICS organization for a number of years. Region Five was a close knit group and he was an obvious leader in the pursuit of excellence in manufacturing. His guidance and counsel will be missed by all who knew him. Larry Smith, McPherson, KS

Tom was and will continue to be my APICS mentor in memory and spirit. I looked forward to every moment we shared together and will sorely miss him. First, I learned from his book and then later in his presence, and finally, Janet and I so enjoyed our many dinners together with you and Tom. We will miss him and you and your family are in our prayers.

Tom was a gentleman and a friend. I got to know him when I spent a sabbatical leave at the University of Minnesota in 1974, and my wife and I were dinner guests at Lorna and Tom's home one very enjoyable evening. Tom and I spoke at many professional meetings in the years that followed, and I always enjoyed visiting with him. He will be missed.

Lorna and Tim,

Tom was such a kind and gentle soul. We loved getting to know you and spend time with you both at APICS each year. His wisdom and kind demeanor will be missed.
You were lucky to be his family, and I'm sure he appreciated your love more than you know. You must have many fond memories to recount together.

With love,

I am so shocked and saddened to have just learned of Tom's passing. Tom was a wonderful friend and mentor to me, always, since I joined the APICS board for the first time seventeen years ago. What an incredible man...such a source of inspiration, wisdom, encouragement...a major influence on me. Connie and I send our most sincere sympathy to you and your family. Treasure the memories.
