Vader, Eugene "Gene" Joseph Jr. Age 81, of Minnetonka, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2011. Born to Gene and Rose Vader in Kansas City, Kansas, where Gene spent his early years before attending Maur Hill Prep and St. Benedict's College ('56) in Atchison. His time at college was interrupted by four years of US Navy service as a journalist, an occupation he pursued for a time upon his return, covering sports for local newspapers. Gene married Kathy (Gammon) in 1957 and began his career in foodservice equipment sales at Koch Refrigeration of Kansas City, moving from inside sales to factory representative for their Chicago-based sales territory. He joined Okinow Sales in Minneapolis in 1967, which became the Vader and Landgraf manufacturer's representative agency where Gene remained president until his retirement in 2004. He served as president of the national Manufacturers' Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry (MAFSI) in 1987. A devoted golfer and student of the game, Gene took in new courses wherever his travels took him and was an active member of Minnesota Valley Country Club from 1968. He was involved with his community at parishes in Minneapolis and Minnetonka and volunteered for years reading news and feature stories for listeners of Minnesota Radio Talking Book. He loved his family, his many friends, good writing, and clear thinking. Gene is survived by wife, Kathy; children, Laurie Zelesnikar (Jerry), Leah (Lynne Huskinson), Peter (Heidi), and Paul (Pahoua Lee) Vader, and Gretchen Ritschel (Peter); grandchildren, Ben, Max, Maria, and Jacquelyn Bailey, Robert Zelesnikar, Shane and Leo Vader, Kaiser and Margret Ritschel. Dear Kathy and family, Holly and I were saddened to learn of Gene's passing. We extend our sincere sympathy to you and his entire family. Boy did we enjoy our time with the two of you at MAFSI events. Holly, you and the girls shopping and we were on the golf course. Gene and I always played for a dime a hole and it seems to me, he usually won. He was a friend and mentor to me and I treasure his influence on my life. Best regards, Tom Borden

Dear Kathy:
You know Gene and I were friends for a lot of years and Enedina and I send you and your family our thoughts and prayers. I will miss Gene's visits to Kansas City and all I can say is "Class Act" is only one way to describe Gene Vader but it is the way many, many of us have always felt about this fine, fine man.

When I was starting off as a rep for Glastender Gene didn't even know me but he approached me and offered a ton of information to help me get started. We never had any dealings with each other again but I will never forget how kind he was.

To the Vader Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of great sorrow. Gene was a wonderful gentleman who taught me much from the time we first met over 35 years ago. My guess is that he already has a tee time with dear friends Toby and Jim. Gene will be missed by those that had the honor to know him. With Deepest Sympathy, Steve Hoch

Dear Kathy, Gene was one of the people who greatly influenced my life. I have many fond memories of times spent with him. I will never forget going with him to the symphony as well as riding in the car making calls and just talking. Gene was one of the kindest individuals I have known in my life. I will forever miss being greeted, first by his big, genuine smile, then a firm handshake, followed by a wonderful hug. He will be missed by many. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Kathy & Family;
We have lost a true gentleman! Gene was always there as a MAFSI member to talk with and give guidance to another Rep. As a friend, you could ask for no one better.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the extended Family.

Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am a diamond glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened
grain
I am the .gentle autumn rain. When you awake in the morn¬ing hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft starshine at night
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die.

To Kathy and the entire family that I knew so well when they were young and I had the privilage of being a part of the family. I learned so many things from Gene and Kathy about being good and loving parents. Gene was a wonderful man who never lacked for a story or two! I know he will be truly missed. Many hugs and love to all of you. Pat Healy Owens, Rockville, IN.

Though I regretfully didn't get to know Gene all that well, he was a dear friend to my dad, Lloyd. Through the stories my dad told about him and the times I got to spend with Gene, I knew him to be a kind, generous, thoughtful man and know he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with Kathy and the family.

Gene took his time to show us his town during the last "girl's reunion", we had such a good time. Talked about our navy experiences, up to that time I didn' t know that he too was a former navy veteran. We both attended St. Benedict's College at almost the same time. We will miss Gene...he was a good man! Milton M. Trujillo

I fondly remember Gene taking me to the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis several years ago for a performance of Olivier Messiaen's "Quartet for the end of time." I'm so grateful for that opportunity and the friendship he and Kathy offered my parents. He was such a kind man. Sincerely, Marian Messing
