Dale Petit Obituary

Published by Star Tribune from Jun. 15 to Jun. 16, 2008.
Petit, Dale L. age 54, of St. Louis Park, passed away peacefully at home on June 12 after a four year battle with brain cancer. Dale grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He was employed by Minnesota Valley Landscape for two years, was co-owner of Landshapes Landscapers for three years, and in 1984 started West Lake Landscape with business partner and close friend Randy Boe. Dale fell in love with his lovely dental hygienist, Kim LaPointe, and they married in 1985. Together they have raised three fine sons, Colin, David and Adam. Dale, a.k.a. "Big D" or "Mr. D", was an avid follower of his sons' many sports activities. He made countless friends through St. Louis Park sports and Westwood Lutheran Church, all of whom came through for him, Kim and the boys in their time of need by providing food, fundraisers, friendship and love, for which his family is forever grateful. Special thanks go to Dr. John Trusheim and his staff. The care provided Dale at the Shalom Community Alliance and at home by Fairview Home Care and Hospice and three very special care-givers was unsurpassed, except perhaps by that of his mother- and father-in-law, Ed and Laura LaPointe, who gave days and weeks of their time. Dale is survived by his wife of 22 years Kim, and sons Colin, David and Adam; father, Julien Petit of Edina; brothers, Noel (Sharon) of Minneapolis, and Barry (Kitty) of Wayzata; many caring cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by mother, Evelyn "Ev" Petit, who loved her "Dale-pie". A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 17 at 2:00 pm at Westwood Lutheran Church, 9001 Cedar Lake Rd., St. Louis Park. Memorials are to the donor's choice.

Dear Kim, Colin, David, and Adam,
I am so sorry to learn about Dale's death. He has definitely been a pillar in our neighborhood. I love the walkway he has put in front of my house and I think of him and thank him daily for it. He was a wonderful and generous neighbor who has helped me many times. I shall treasure his memory for ever.
May his love of life strengthen each one of you.
Love,

Dear Petits,
Colleen and I are saddened to learn of your loss. Dale used his wholesale connection to get me the flowering crab in the front yard of my old house at 3201; I hope that seeing it bloom each spring will remind you that life always renews itself.

Dear Petit family,
We were so saddened to hear of Dales passing; Our sympathy to you all and please know that you are all in our hearts and prayers during this very difficult time. Dale was a good childhood friend of my brother Charlie (Woodlawn Blvd) and has so many fond memories of their fun times together. They walked to school together every day and laughed all the way there and back. Our moms (both named "Evelyn") were also good friends. Stay strong, and may you be comforted by His great love for you. "Punkie" (Williamson)

It has been many years since I had the pleasure of Dale's company, but I truly enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with him at one of your many family gatherings.

Dear Kim, Colin, David, and Adam,
We are so sorry for your loss. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss Dale's great commentary from the announcer's booth at baseball! Kim, I will not forget how sweet you two were at the fourth of July at Aquila, holding hands and watching fireworks together.
Much much love your way,
