Richie and his family have been friends & neighbors of mine since 1990. Around the neighborhood Richie was lovingly known as the "Cookie Man". No matter when he was walking his beloved daschound Franz, Richie had a pant pocket full of doggie cookies for his other 4-legged friends. The neighborhood dogs flacked to Richie whenever he was outside - in fact my dog (Simon) embarrassingly ripped his pant pocket in his attempt to get another cookie; Richie just laughed and laughed while Ellie looked on just shaking her head! There were many times his 4-legged friends would be sitting outside Richie and Ellie's front door waiting for Richie while the 2-legged friends (his neighbors, the dog owner) would apologizing and explain how their dog(s) wouldn't walk past his driveway and pulled them to the front door! As time went on, it was believed that Richie trained Franz to bark and bark when they were out for their daily walks so that all the other dogs in the 'hood would know the "Cookie Man" is here! There won't be a day when I'm walking around our lil' neighborhood that I won't think of the "Cookie Man" and lovingly say a prayer for him. We miss you Richie not just for the cookies but for all the good times and great conversations while walking the 'hood with you.

I had the great honor of knowing Richie for more than 40 years. He was my brother-in-law for 23 of those years. As the song goes "to know him is to love him" He was one of a kind and someone I will never forget. My condolences go out to his wife and children and grandchildren. You have lost a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
