Alan Troop Obituary

Alan F. Troop of Davie, FL, 69 years old, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family and friends, on December 18, 2014. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 27 years Susan Troop; his children: Jason Troop, 43 of Sarasota, FL; David Troop, 39 of Hollywood, FL; Leah Foster, 36 of Davie, FL; Leon Bernstein, 47 of Seattle, WA; and Michael Bernstein, 49 of Fair Haven, NJ. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Delaney Troop 18, Zoe Troop 13, Carolina Troop 4, Levi Foster 10, Sadie Foster 8, and Aaron Bernstein 12. Though born in New Jersey, Alan lived as the truest native South Floridian. He graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1963 and attended the University of Florida and the University of Miami. He chased his dreams, first as a "tycoon" operating Biscayne Electric & Hardware, a family business started in 1952, in Miami but later in life pursued his real passion, writing. Four of his novels were published internationally, including the Dragon De La Sangre series. In addition he wrote countless articles and pieces published in New Mobility Magazine, the Miami Herald, the Sun Sentinel, and others, only to name a few. Also an accomplished sailor, the ocean and beach were his second homes. Every week he could be found on the Hollywood Beach broadwalk, where he would take his children and grandchildren to share his love for the water and the South Florida life. A get together in his memory will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014, from 3:00-5:00 pm at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 2401 S. University Drive, Davie, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Miami Project To Cure Paralysis.

I had got my first book by him when I was 12 by just grabbing a random book off the shelf at the book store. After reading the book, and intrigued by the story I decided to write my own. I had alot of vivid dreams back then and decided to write down the one that was reoccurring alot. Now at the age of 33, I have successfully wrote the first book and got it published. I went looking for Mr. Troop's website to email him and tell him of my final success as I wrote him back then telling him that he had inspired me to start writing it. I only come to find out he had passed away, I wanted to share my success with him and tell him I never forgot the kind words he shared with me and wished me success on my writing journey. I wish his family the best and hope to connect so I can share my story with them if they would like.

Sincerely,

Brian Jarboe

This was an extraordinary man by ALL standards. He will be felt and loved forever by all who knew him. A mentor, a lover, a soul mate, a friend, a Dad; a blessing to his family and friends. I wish his family peace. Dana Vandesteene.

My condolences to the Troop family on Alan's passing. I have many fond memories of working with Alan during his Biscayne Electric days and my Stanley Tools days. He was always looking for a deal, and we both had a lot of fun in the negotiation process. He was "one of a kind" and will be missed. Well done Alan!
