Very sorry to hear of Arnolds passing. The American Legion Auxiliary came to the VA every Tuesday to play bingo and Arnold was always there when I came in. The first time I walked in when he came to VA he asked if I was from the Moon family. He remembered me from visiting Doris with my grandparents yrs. before. Sandy Cain Crain

As a VA volunteer I spent some time, over the last several months, visiting Arnold. I first had to find him. He was as likely to be in the 'mess hall' playing bingo with some of the guys or in the hall waiting for some action (chatting with some of the other patients) or sometimes even in his room. That is where I found him visiting with his family who had come down from Buffalo the day he died. I never would have thought that would be our last visit. I asked how his excursion that the VA had arranged for a boat ride on Skaneateles Lake went, kind of rushed he responded. He was constantly on oxygen. I've got asthma and no how tough just breathing can be. I had no idea how active this man was until I read his obituary. He told me about his experience in the battle of the bulge. I don't recall him mentioning his bronze star. His room mate told me he got one of those on D Day something about getting shot. Arnold did mention grumbling about the army now and again but also the pride of that uniform. How lucky and blessed this country was to have such as he. How privileged I feel that I was able to spend some time getting to talk with him. May his family take comfort and pride in his contribution to country and community as well as to themselves.
