GILL, Henry Aloysius Jr. "Harry,"died peacefully November 29 in Tampa, after a long illness. Henry was the beloved husband of Peggy Bostick Gill for 47 years; the loving father of Alicia Gill Rossiter of Tampa, Henry A. Gill III of Tampa, and Jaymes Daniel Gill of New Jersey; father-in- law of Thomas William Rossiter Jr. and Susanne Kinsella Gill; and the cherished grandfather of Kylee Gill Rossiter, Molly Gannon Rossiter, Hayley Anne Rossiter, Henry Aloysius Gill IV, Cassidy Anne Gill, and Lauren Elizabeth Gill, all of Tampa.

The son of the late Henry Aloysius and Alice Donovan Gill, Henry is survived by his four brothers, Rev. David Gill, S.J. of California, John (Kevin) Gill of Florida, Richard Gill and Peter Gill of Massachusetts. Henry graduated from Boston College and Georgetown University Law School. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Navy Captain.

Henry served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia courts. He served as Chief Judge John Sirica' s administrative assistant in the U.S. District Court at the time Judge Sirica presided over the Watergate trials. His career continued with the U.S. Department of Energy where he served as deputy general counsel for litigation. He won the prestigious John Marshall Award for Outstanding Service. In 1990, during the savings and loan crisis, he was recruited by the Resolution Trust Corporation in Tampa. He was responsible for the preservation of assets of troubled savings and loans institutions and banks and managing litigation involving those entities. His successes, such as the takeover of CenTrust, are still talked about in legal circles. In 1999, Henry joined the Chubb & Son, Inc., managing litigation involving complex employment law litigation. He worked at Chubb & Son, Inc. until his retirement in 2008. In 2008, he was asked by the FDIC to return on a contract basis after the financial collapse to again help manage the dissolution of troubled banks. Henry was an active member of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee, where he served as chair. Henry was a Board member of the Davis Islands Civic Association and served as President. He was an active member of both the University Club and the Davis Islands Yacht Club. He served on the boards of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Family Justice Center. Donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, P.O. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to a celebration of life Mass for Henry at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Sacred Heart Church in Tampa, Florida. Reception to follow at the Davis Islands Yacht Club. Blount & Curry MacDill Ave. Chapel.

Ms. & Family;
Getting to know Henry from the Family Justice Center was an honor for me. He was so humble and wise. His calm demeanor helped guide the Center through some tough times. What a cherished life he led with all of you there around him. My thoughts are with you and your family.
