Danny Sonnier Obituary

Danny "Cowboy" Sonnier

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Danny Louis Sonnier.

Services will be conducted by the Very Rev. Chester Arceneaux, VF.

Danny Louis Sonnier was born on May 20, 1954 in Lafayette, Louisiana, to the union of Guster and Elaine LeBlanc Sonnier.

Danny was a graduate of Holy Rosary Institute, and attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas from 1973 - 1975. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1975, and served until 1977.

He married the love of his life, Terri Yvette Lee from Los Angeles, California, at St. Joseph Church in Broussard, Louisiana on August 10, 1985; they moved to Los Angeles in 1986, where their daughter, Morgan was born in 1988.

He had a talent for sharing his magnetic personality with all whom he met. He always had kind words to share, a humorous and uplifting anecdote to offer. He loved cooking, sports and politics, and was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints, whether they won or lost a game.

Danny was a member of IHM Church since birth. He rejoined the church in 2009 upon relocating from out of town. He was a devout Catholic and stated to anyone that "He was born a Catholic and would die a Catholic."

On Monday, October 10, 2016, the Lord called Danny home into the garden of eternal life, to be with his parents, Guster and Elaine L. Sonnier.

Danny is survived by his loving wife, Terri; his daughter, Morgan; siblings Diane Jolivette, Patricia Ventress, Alma Poche' (Raymond), Carita "Molly" Walker (Joseph), Sandra Feder (David), and two canine companions, Napoleon (Nappy) and Dora.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Guster, Larry and Darrell, and his sister, Gaynell.

Mourning his passing are many relatives and friends - Danny was loved by all!!!

Visitation will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at Syrie Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and continue Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until time of service.

Terri, Morgan and the entire Sonnier family there are no words to truly express my feeling of loss of Danny who was one of my favorite people. Over the years, I've been honored for him to consider me as " part of the family ".

I only regret that I did not see him before he was taken from us so soon.

Please know that he will always be in my thoughts just as you are throughout your grief. I know what you must be feeling right now because I share the pain in Danny's passing.

So, please have some consolation in that he's in a far better place.

I love all of you.
