Pierre Plant Sr.

A native of Plaquemine and a resident of Chicago, he was born Jan. 27, 1919, in White Castle. On Saturday, Feb.25, 2012, at 2:15 a.m., Pierre was granted his angel wings. His final days were spent at home surrounded by his family. Visitation at A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Home will begin at 1 p.m. on March 2, 2012. Wake service will begin at the funeral home at 12 pm and religious service at 1 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2012, Elder Mark Carl King officiating. He is survived by a devoted wife of 62 years, Mattie L. Plant, of Chicago; 10 daughters, Alma P. Mellion (Lawrence), of Plaquemine, Felecie P. Carlin (Lawrence), of Zachary, Vera P. Brooks (Charles), of Plaquemine, Helen P. Chatman (Robert), of Richton Park, Ill., Virginia P. Turner of Moreno Valley, Calif., Janice P Sanders, Belinda P. Reeves (Lynn), Virgie P. Rush, Cynthia Plant, and Delilah P. Bennett (Benjamin III), all of Chicago; eight sons, Pierre Plant Jr. (Agnes), of Baton Rouge, Charles Plant (Brenda), of Duncan, Okla., Jerome Plant (Carla), of Sycamore, Ill., Ivan Wayne Plant, of DeKalb, Ill., Rodney Plant, of Seattle, Rodger Plant (Shavon), of DeKalb, Anthony Plant Sr. and Eric Plant, both of Chicago; a brother, Alfred Plant Sr., of Baton Rouge; 37 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Genester Jackson, of Baton Rouge, Evelyn Handley (Armson), of Atlanta, Josephine Johnson, Chicago, Olivia M. Plant, of Baton Rouge, and Inetta Wesley Johnson, of Baker; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pierre was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Plant Sr. and Felecie Plant; spouse, Mable Wesley Plant; eight sisters, Mary, Elnora, Sarah, Francis, Virginia, Beatrice, Alma and Olivia; seven brothers, Charlie Jr., Johnny, Moses, David, Alex, Willie and Herman; two grandsons, Raphael Rush and Phillip Harmason Jr.; and a son-in-law, Norman Turner Sr. Services entrusted to A.A.
