Virginia E. (O'Brien) Winslow, 91, of Vineland passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center, as the result of complications from a fall at her residence. She had been in declining health for a year.
Virginia was born in Vineland to John and Elizabeth (Costello) O'Brien. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Chestnut Hill College. She was a teacher of history and social studies at Vineland High School for 25 years. Virginia was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling extensively, including a world cruise on the Queen Mary ocean liner. In midlife, she married William Winslow and "inherited" two teenage daughters, Jeanne and Jayne, with whom she eventually forged a close and lasting bond.
Virginia is predeceased by her husband, William Winslow; her daughter, Jayne Winslow Tony; and her brother, Jack O'Brien.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Winslow Armato and her husband Ed; her nephews, Kevin (Carolyn) and Jack (Sandy); five great-nieces and nephews, Megan, Danny, John, Amy and Matt; and five great-great-nieces, Maddy, Bess, Grace, Rose and Sophie Gaeta.
The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave., Vineland. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery. The viewing will take place on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday for close family and friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Virginia may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.

Dear Jeanne, Ed and Family:
Please accept our sincere sympathy on the passing of Virginia. She was my 8th grade social studies teacher who, many years later, became my colleague in the VHS Social Studies Department. She was an excellent teacher for generations of students.
