GREENWOOD — Rachael Rankin Breazeale, 102, of Greenwood, widow of Roscoe J. Breazeale, died Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Wesley Commons.
Born near Liberty, S.C., on July 10, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Clifford Rankin and Grayton Johnston Rankin.
Rachael was known for being a supportive wife, dedicated mother and matriarch to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1938 and attended Private Business School in Greenville. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school in Asheville, N.C., Clemson and Chester. She was later a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood.
In her early years she enjoyed tennis and later played accomplished games of golf and bridge into her early 90's.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald R. Breazeale (Mary Jo) of Greenwood and H. Jeffrey Breazeale (Ida) of Sunset; grandsons, Cliff R. Breazeale (Jana) of Greenwood, Christopher Breazeale of Sunset and Jeffrey Ridgeway of Pickens; granddaughters, Rachael Perkins (Kenny) of Augusta, Ga., and Megan McCollum (Sid) of Pickens; great-grandchildren, Caleb Ridgeway, Bryson McCollum, Sara Kate McCollum, Wesley M, Breazeale and Dylan L. Breazeale; also numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Batson (Baylis) of Greenville; brothers, Thomas Rankin (Leah), Hugh A. Rankin (Joyce), all of Liberty and Bill Rankin (Mildred) of Easley.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at North Side Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Letcho officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Slabtown Presbyterian Cemetery, 121 Bagwell Road, Liberty, SC, 29657.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Wesley Commons for all their care given.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

The Breazeale Family has been friends with our family, the Scotts for as long as we remember. They are extended family, and we loved Rachael and will miss her so much. Her absence will affect us all.
