BARTOW - Joseph D. "J.D." Croom, age 79, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 from heart failure in Winter Haven.
Mr. Croom was born on April 9, 1932 in Plant City. He was a member of Peace Creek Baptist Church in Bartow and the Florida National Guard. Mr. Croom retired from US Agrichemical in Fort Meade where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Lavada S. Croom of Bartow, son Dennis E. Croom (Andrea), two daughters: Darlene Cardullo (Michael), Paula R. Leggett, all of Bartow, two brothers: Wesley Croom of Bronson, David Croom of Auburndale, two sisters: Bernice McQuien of Plant City, Mary Waters of GA, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 16th at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will follow Friday, June 17th at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel. Lavada and family... thinking of you. It´s so hard to believe so many years have passed. I think of JD often and cherish the memories growing up as friends and neighbors nearby, our working days at USAGChem, our home church, etc.. you both made an impact in my life... Ron loved you too.

Lavada and Family,
I am saddened to hear of JD's passing and I apologize for not being able to attend but I have been deployed to the Bunnell District on wild fire support. I thought an awful lot of JD and he was one heck of man. Thank you for the time I got to be around him.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of this wonderful man. He touched my life but briefly, and I can still feel his love. I miss the great times we had as a church family!! Been a long time but I was sorry to hear of JD's passing. When I was a boy you and JD brought an anchor to my life I desperately needed. I sat this morning remembering him to trying to teach me to ride your riding lawnmower. He gave up after I almost run over some of your shrubs. Then me and him wrestling down at Lake Walk in the Water. Fond memories of a great guy that impacted my life. Many men are natural fathers to a lot of people and JD was one of those. Darlene, I was sooo sad to hear from Charles of your Dad's passing. I was able to have such a sweet conversation with him not too long ago---- at the salon. Your father was one of the kindest men I have ever met; so much like Grandad Anderson. I know you, your precious mom and all your family will miss him greatly. He was also blessed to have a daughter that worshiped the ground he walked on. All of you will be in our prayers over the days and months ahead. Be blessed just knowing he's in the arms of Jesus. Lavada & Family...I know I don't have to tell you J.D. was like a Dad to me...since I was "knee-high to a grasshopper", as he would always tell others. He meant a lot to me and so do you. I will cherish the years I worked with him and sat in Sunday School next to him. My heart breaks for all of you, but we can find comfort in his confidence that he found peace and rest with the Lord.
