Marjorie Burks Obituary

Marjorie Hope Burks, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on September 28, 2012, surrounded in love by her family.

She was born November 18, 1927 to Marjorie and Harold Kennedy of Detroit, Michigan. She was married to Robert Ellis Burks on March 12, 1949. Their marriage lasted over 63 years, and they had 6 children.

Marjorie went by her middle name Hope, and is survived by husband Robert Burks, of Hurricane, UT; her sister Carol Milne of Scottsdale, AZ; her brother, James Kennedy of Michigan; her children, Robert (Carol) Burks of Oceanside, CA, Patrick (Caryna) Burks of Portland, OR, Kathleen (Brent) Nelson of La Verkin, UT, Carolyn Saulpaw of Vista, CA, Nancy Burks (Jim) Moore of Hurricane, UT; and daughter-in-law, Darlene Cootware of San Marcos, CA.

She is also survived by 20 grandchildren; Sandy Dean, AL, Bob Burks, CA, Megan Burks, FL, Michael Burks, MN, Stacey Burks, CA, Aaron Burks, Ian Burks, Whitney Burks, and Patrick Burks, all of Oregon, Krystal Bagley, NV, Kevin Nelson, MT, Kenny Nelson, Joey Nelson, Haley Nelson, and Robbie Nelson, all of Utah, Matthew Saulpaw, CA, Cody Saulpaw, UT, Lukas Saulpaw, CA, Shane Burks, UT, Lacey Burks, UT; and 16 great-grandchildren; Lyndsey and Austin Dean, AL, Nikia, Colin, and Makenzie Burks, MN, William Ray, CA, Sarah, Wyatt, and Angelina Maltagliati, CA, Zoe and Emma Burks, OR, Noah Bagley, NV, Madison, Johnathan, Riley, and Parker Nelson, MT, Benson Saulpaw, CA.

Hope was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Windfeldte; her son, Michael Burks, and her grandson, David Nelson.

Hope was a loving wife and mother and grandmother. She was an excellent gardener, cook, and seamstress, and she loved arts and crafts. Hope was a gentle woman, much loved by all who knew her, with a feisty personality and a great sense of humor, which was endearing to her grandchildren.

Hope and Robert moved from Michigan to California, where they raised their children before retiring in 1984. After retiring, she and Robert bought a trailer and traveled all over the western United States before settling down in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they lived until 2005 when they moved to Hurricane, Utah.

Hope was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1995, and fought it courageously until her passing. She will be very much missed.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to her wonderful caregivers.

First, her children and grandchildren wish to thank Hope's husband, their father and grandfather, Robert Ellis Burks, who took such tender care of her during all the years of her illness, sacrificing all for Hope.

Second, to her Hospice Nurse, RN Linda Fields, who was so caring and giving to Hope and third, to her In-home caregivers, Jennifer Jones, Alesha Pritchard, and Miranda Walter. All of these women were the best, most giving and loving people you could wish for to take care of a loved one who is ill. They all went above and beyond the family's expectations.

Arrangements are under the care of Spilsbury Mortuary, St. George (435) 673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign her guest book at www.spilsburymortuary.com.
