Peter Purdue
1942 - 2015
Peter Anthony Cyril Purdue born July 10, 1942 in Auckland, New Zealand died suddenly May 9, 2015 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was a kind generous friend to many and will be greatly missed. Predeceased by his father Peter Purdue and mother Valma Purdue. He leaves to mourn his wife Sharon Riis, son Pierre Purdue (Summer Hunt), granddaughters Danielle and Violet, sister Lesley (Graeme Gilbertson) brothers Brian (Akiemi) and Nick (Diane), his former wife Elsie Beale (Michael Beale) and his sweetheart of several years Linda Wason- Ellam. He loved art and those who created it with passion. A life long Socialist he worked tirelessly for all people in need and never forgot his beloved father's admonition: "It's not a class struggle my son – it's class war." As a gifted teacher he has influenced multitudes to live more consciously and humanely in this wounded world. All are welcome to a Ceremonial send off at the White Cap Dog Walk on June 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Meet at the parking lot of Riverside Country Club and proceed together from there down to the river. Take Highway 219 (Lorne Avenue) and turn west on Grasswood Road. There will also be a Celebration of Peter's life at the Faculty Club, University of Saskatchewan on June 14, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to [email protected]. Arrangements have been entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home.

I knew Peter only briefly as a student of his but was touched deeply by his kindness and love of teaching. He taught me what it was to be a compassionate teacher.

Deepest Sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Purdue. We all enjoyed our little chats with him when he would drop his clothes off and pick them up from our establishment. He will be missed.

Peter was a bon vivant, an accomplished dialogist, and a brilliant wit. I recall standing with him in Topkapi Palace in Istanbul when he announced that all Saskatchewan was his personal seraglio.
