PS. When I read this poem, it made me think of him!

Don't think of him as gone away
his journey's just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

How blessed you are to have had Dec. Roots as a Husband/Father. My heart is so heavy after learning of his passing. What a wonderful, kind Man he was. His light shined so brightly. Deacon Roots was the epitome of a God-loving Man! I will never forget him, and feel oh so blessed to have known him. What a void we now have at First Union! I could on and on; but just know that I'm right across the woods from you; and I am here if you need me. Just like your Father/Husband was there for Justin, and myself. May God bless each of you.

Deacon-Elect Roots truly was a man of God whom reached out to all ages stretching from the younger generation to the oldest generation. His thoughtfulness and sweet spirit definitely will be missed but never forgotten. I'm grateful that God allowed your husband and father to share his gift to encourage, listen, and uplift me. To the Roots Family:

I express my deepest sympathy! You never know how someone feels or what they are going through until you have experienced it yourself. I know what you are feeling and pray for your continued strength and trust in the Lord!

Mr. Roots was a loving man with a HUGE heart. He would do anything for anyone without asking for anything in return. His legacy will live on forever.

I pray that during this time you trust in the Lord and know that Mr. Roots is no longer suffering. He is smiling upon you all and wants you all to keep his legacy alive by doing what he would want you to do, helping others, having a loving heart, and keeping God first.

I will miss him dearly. Whenever I was at church, I could always count on Mr. Roots just checking in with me and putting a smile on my face. He always said something to make me smile. I will never forget that!

May God bless you and keep you!

With love always,

Theresa Cuthrell and Family

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
