The world is now a little less sweet without Artie in it. He always subscribed to the saying, "Those who give silently give twice." Artie was never demanding or authoritative, condescending or impressed with himself. Instead, he was a true gentle person, a true gentleman. He worked his magic in the quiet arenas using his quick intelligence and wit, his nod, his raised eyebrow, his compassion for others and his endless inquiry. I will miss the unsigned "thinking of you cards," and the spontaneous phone calls. I will miss his laugh and his perception and most of all, his friendship. I became a better person just by being in his presence.

To Artie's family: Artie spoke often of you and of his love for all of you, and especially his parents. I feel like I know you! We shared many memorable conversations about his childhood and his family and his hopes and dreams. He never wanted you to know how really sick he was. My heart goes out to you for your loss of this person who can only be described as a treasure.

I was very shocked and sadden to hear about Art's death. We have been close friends for over 20 years and although I havn't seen him in several years, we always kept in touch. He always remembered me on birthdays and holidays. The last card I received from him was on Mother's Day. I'm only sorry I didn't take the time to give him a call. May God give you comfort during this time. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
