The word friendship is difficult to define in terms of relations to one another. It's meaning differs from person to person dependant upon whom you ask. Truly, the word friendship requires a relationship in order to develop. It demands that we take an active role in being apart of someone's life and sharing circumstances and events along the way. But, it also means that we must take an active interest in being there wherever and whenever called upon. Friendship is sometimes overstated but it is truly not under-rated when there is pride in being associated in a special relationship.

My relationship with Sidney Gray evolved in our youth but my friendship with Sidney started a few years ago. It manifested itself through our relationship with our Maggie L. Walker High School 'Class of 1965' family. I extended an invitation to him to join us for a luncheon I sponsored and he showed up and we all had a great time being together. He was an exceptional person with such an interesting past. And, a personality that was infectious. He was the type of guy who's reputation for daring and extreme sports was larger than life. Sid was a genuinely good guy who loved his fellow man and maintained countless friendships with so many people from his life's journey. He was giving, kind and one heck of a Gumbo cook as many of us knew when he put on his annual holiday Gumbo house party.

Fortunately, God directed me to be there when Sidney needed me. I reinforced my commitment to him by offering my assistance whenever, wherever and took the walk with him as did others who were at his side during his last days. I am honored to have been apart of his life and thank God for allowing me to share a friendship with him. He will be missed but always remembered for his daring antics, his kindness, his personality and his relationship with others.

Blessings,

Wes and Iris Hewlett

Ann, it was great seeing you a few months ago and meeting your husband, Sidney at St. Paul's! I can say that you both put smiles on one another's face...to see that happiness touched me, so much! It is obvious you guys were meant to be.

And then when I called and talked to you guys to see if Sidney wanted to attend a seminar...little did I know, that would be the last time I would talk with him!

Please accept my sincere condolences...it is also obvious that your man was the epitome of a Godly man! Be blessed

I was very sorry to hear of Sidney's passing. When my brother passed years ago, I was much younger and did not understand why he had to leave at such a young age - Rev. E. E. Warren told me to dry my tears and remember this: We are all Pilgrims, just passing through on a journey, we were not here to stay, some early, some later. Sidney's completed his journey and is resting in peace. We all have to complete this journey.

My Prayers are with Sidney's family.

To The Gray Family:

I offer my sympathy and my heart is heavy due to the passing of a fine human being. Sid and I worked at least three different jobs in the 70's and 80's - we were in Human Services and at that printing company.

Sid was fantastic coworker and wonderful friend - I will miss him dearly because he was special, respected and well liked.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

Sid and I have been friends since we first worked together back in the early 80's and then he married one of my family friends Ann. Through all this time we have all remaind family not just friends. Ann I love you with all my heart and if there is absolutely anything I can do for you just let me know!

As friends and former co-workers of Sid, CLiff and I were shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. A real "people person" Sid was. He knew how to put a smile on your face. Jovial, with a big heart for everyone!! The Lord has chosen a real "gem" to join him in heaven.....

My heart became heavy with the news of Sid. I know he touched many of people's heart with his laughter, his kindness, His understanding of sports. Hearing him in the break room now talking about Football with Smithy, or Billy or someone else. Talking or yelling, which ever it was, it would make me smile from ear to ear. Remember Sid, and don't be sad, be happy that he is in a better place, looking over us and knowing that we will meet again. God bless you and those that were close to my friend, for you will need to be strong for this man that you loved and for yourself to understand the power of the lord. Sid touched so many hearts, in so many different ways that no one could even begin to know how many lives he has touched. Like and Angel of the lord on earth. God Bless you Sid and your Family. You will be missed so much.
