Anne Segar Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Dec. 19, 2009.
SEGAR, Anne R., passed away in her home in San Francisco, Calif. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, after a five-month battle with cancer. Born January 10, 1943 in Richmond, Va., Anne was a wife and mother, teacher, foreign missionary, grandmother, aunt and church secretary. She excelled in all these roles, helping, teaching, inspiring, and most of all, loving others, always acknowledging Christ as the source of her love and strength. Anne graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in English and a master's degree in special education. Upon her graduation from VCU, she taught missionary children in Brazil for three years. She subsequently moved to San Francisco, where she completed coursework in child development at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, worked as a church secretary, and volunteered in schools and at her church. Throughout her life, Anne credited a childhood friend for introducing her to Christ. Likewise, Anne's family would like to thank Anne for sharing Christ with them. Anne is survived by her husband, J. Randolph Segar Jr. of Richmond, Va.; son, William Curtis Segar; daughters, Elizabeth Segar of Long Beach, Calif. and Patty Segar of San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Reuben Rigel of St. Louis, Mo.; and sisters, Sara Rigel of St. Louis, Mo. and Margaret Conwell of Seaford, Va. A memorial service will be held at Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Road, Monday, December 21, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the church.

Dear Elizabeth and Patty,
I was so sorry to read that your lovely mother had died.
We were snowed-in, and I could not attend the memorial service.
I have thought about both of you so often through the years and have wondered what you were doing.
With love,
Ann Brysnt --- English, Robious Middle School

Anne was a childhood friend, a school buddy, and a young adult cohort. Even then, I knew that she was a special person who felt great compassion and great love for all. She accomplished much in her life, and she will be remembered always. To her family, words seem so inadequate at times as these, but please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.
