Beverly Ray Bailey

BAILEY, Beverly Ray, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2010, surrounded by family. He was 79. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Charlotte Padgette Bailey. He was a passionate genealogist, Civil War buff, Virginia Tech football fan, and fiercely proud of his family and southern heritage. Mr. Bailey served in the National Guard and went on to become an accomplished draftsman. He was admired in construction circles for his extensive and practical knowledge and served as president of two contracting firms. He was especially proud of his work as project manager for the Prince William County school district, a position he held until weeks before his passing. Mr. Bailey was an active member of Huguenot United Methodist Church and enjoyed time spent at Methodist Men's Fellowship gatherings. He was also a Mason (Richmond Randolph Lodge 19, AF and AM). Left to remember and recount his humble strength of character, patience, selflessness, intelligence, and devotion to family include his wife, Sonye; children, Stann Bailey, Cathy Rossi and Laura Butler; stepson, Johnny Skelton; siblings, Evelyn Elder, Shirley Faison and William Bailey; as well as seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Huguenot United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Thursday, December 9, followed by a reception at Walton Lake Clubhouse.
