Charles Rowe Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 18, 2009.
ROWE, Charles Alan Jr., 81, of Dinwiddie, Va., passed away in his home on Friday, November 13, 2009. He was the widower of Beverly Hightower Rowe. A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, he served in the US Navy at the close of World War II. After the war, he graduated from Richmond Professional Institute. Charlie retired from Fort Lee as a Supervisory Information Specialist with over 30 years of service. As an artist, my dad spent time making his family and loved ones many gifts from wood carvings and oil paintings. The beautiful things he created will comfort us during our period of mourning and provide us a lifetime of wonderful memories that we will always cherish. He also made an enormous amount of homemade wine, surpassed by none, that was joyously consumed throughout the years. He was true to himself and tried to treat others the same way. He liked and enjoyed people. He lived an unpretentious life and hoped that others respected him as he did them, faults and all. His wife was the priority of his life and he felt that she and his family were his biggest blessing. He is survived by son, Stephen; son, Michael and wife, Jan; daughter, Rebecca and husband, Larry Beightol; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Alan, Stephanie, Michael Jr., Adam, Jennifer, Thomas and Beverly; and seven great-grandchildren. After cremation, a private interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, where his remains will rest beside those of his wife and son, Patrick; date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 5875 Bremo Rd., Suite 710, Richmond, Va 23226.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. He was a VERY special friend to my Dad (Charlie O'Brien) for many, many years. Your Mom was also a very dear friend of my Mom's (Carol). My parents' home was sprinkled w/your Dad's art all around the house - a wooden duck, bottle of wine, several caricatures :-) and paintings. There are several beautiful quilts too! I knew your Dad personally and thought him to be very sweet and always genuine and caring with a wonderful sense of humor. I know he will be missed. I pray that happy memories will fill your hearts and lessen the heaviness you now feel.
