MARTIN, Clare Marie Donovan, died quietly at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the age of 77 in Richmond, Va. She was born in Boston, Mass., where she attended Boston University and graduated with a nursing degree. She then moved to California, where she did graduate work at U.S.C., and met and married her husband, Dan W. Martin, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Lorin C. Sutton. Clare is survived by her children, Michael W. Martin and his wife, Vicky, and Kelly M. Nachman and her husband, Jim; and her grandchildren, Tanner and Kinsey Martin. She is also survived by a large Irish Catholic family in Massachusetts. Clare lived in Arizona and New Jersey before moving to Richmond, where she spent the last 35 years. Her nursing career spanned 50 years and included the ER at L.A. County General Hospital, public health on the Indian Reservations of Arizona and 10 years as night nursing supervisor at Westminster Canterbury before retiring. She served as chairman of the Architectural Review Board for Raintree Association for many years. Clare leaves behind many friends from coast to coast. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. Her strong, independent, wise and fun-loving spirit touched all who knew her and will always be remembered. The family will receive friends at the family home in Raintree, 2005 Windbluff Ct., on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 4 to 6 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Richmond S.P.C.A.
