Clem BURNETT Obituary

BURNETT, Clem Fitch Jr., M.D., of Mayfield, Ky., formerly of Richmond passed away on October 1, 2010. Born January 10, 1924, Dr. Burnett graduated from John Marshall High School (Class of '41), the University of Richmond and the Medical College of Virginia (Class of '47 - Navy V-12). He served in the U.S. Navy as a doctor and surgeon in Norfolk and Stuttgart, Germany, and took post-doctorate studies at Lahey Clinic and the Mayo Clinic before settling in Mayfield. He is survived by his eldest son, Bradford Fitch Burnett (Jean) of Richmond. Also surviving are his wife, Evelyn N. Burnett; sons, Dr. Eric A. Burnett (Jane) of Lexington, Ky. and Brian T. Burnett (Neal Ann); and a daughter, Dr. Ellen M. Burnett, both of Mayfield, Ky.; and sisters, Katherine B. Kenworthy of Fountain View, Calif. and Nell B. Shelton of Mechanicsville. Dr. Burnett was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, a 50-year Mason, served multiple terms as president of his Rotary Club, and was a member of the American College of Cardiologists. He was also very much a philanthropist in the Mayfield community and highly respected by all who knew him. He often mentioned his Richmond friends and classmates, especially after retirement. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, Va. 23223-4926.
