GEORGE F. BRASFIELD Jr.

BRASFIELD, George Frederick Jr., of Washington, D.C., died on July 11, 2013 at Edenton Retirement Community, Frederick, Md. George was the son of the late George Frederick Brasfield and Minna Booker Brasfield of Petersburg, Va. He is survived by his wife, Ann Mitchell Brasfield; his daughter, Melanie Brasfield Blonshine and her husband, Kevin; his grandson, Wyatt Blonshine; and his brother, Evans Brasfield. George grew up in Petersburg, attended Petersburg public schools, and graduated from Woodberry Forest School and the University of Virginia, where he was a member of St. Anthony Hall, captain of the varsity track team, and recipient of the annual award to the most outstanding member of that team. At UVA he was enrolled in the Naval ROTC program, and upon graduation received a commission as Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, in which he saw combat in the Korean War in 1952 to 1953. Upon his release from active duty, he enrolled in the Wharton School of Business Administration at the University of Pennsylvania, and upon graduation he joined the Washington office of Alex. Brown & Sons, where he was an investment banker and broker for his entire professional career. A service will be held for family and friends at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at St. Albans Parish, 3001 Wisconsin Ave., Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift in his name to Woodberry Forest School, 402 Woodberry Station, Woodberry Forest, Va. 22989.
