Poppy,
Just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you today. I miss you so much. I have a picture of you and Nanny on my desk at work. It makes me feel like you are with me. I also have a "poppy star". The night of your funeral KK told me to pick a star, and to remember where it was, and that is my Poppy Star. So every night before bed, I go and smoke, and talk to my Poppy Star. I miss you so much Pop. I decided that I want to name my first daughter Dulaney, just like you. I love you.

Sweet Poppy. I remember all those times you took me to the playground and made mini golf courses in the backyard for us to play. I remember how you always worked hard to take care of your family and how you welcomed me in your home and loved me as one of your own. I will never forget the bond and love you had for my children.Sitting in the floor, playing with them and taking them outside even when you did not feel like it. I will always remember how important good values were to you and how you abidid by them all the days of your life. I love you and miss you and look foward to seeing you again!

My Poppy was the greatest Gradfather anyone could ever ask for. He was always there to share a joke with us or give an amazing hug. I will never forget him, or the way that he loved me. I miss you so much Poppy, but I know that you are in heaven looking down on me and taking care of me. I love you, and I cant wait to see you again one day!!

I am Pete Collier, Herman's brother. In 1953 I left home and went to live with Herman in the old Franklin hotel at Third and Cary Street. I didn't have a dime in my pocket. Herman paid for my first weeks rent, $13.00 for room and board. Then he got me a job working with him at Korman Brother's Furniture Company at 4th and Marshall. There Herman and I worked together for 2 years. We would sit in our hotel room with the door open and play the guitar and sing. First thing we knew we had a room full of people. Then Herman met this nice lady named Fleta. They went on to marry and have 4 wonderful children. Herman was a good father and as I was told a good husband. Herman was a wonderful brother and was loved by everyone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Herman will surely be missed. May his soul rest in peace with God Almighty. I would like to tell you a story about Herman. I remember one time Herman asked Odis and I to help him build a house sled. We proceeded to build a house sled and when we were finished it weighed about 1000 pounds. We waited for the first snow and took the sled to the top of the hill. We got in the sled, it was nice and warm and cozy. Down the hill we went. When we got to the bottom of the hill we looked at each other and said "How are we going to get that 1000 pound sled back up that hill?" We ended up tearing that sled apart and that was the end of that.

To Fleta & The collier Family,
I was so very sorry to hear about your loss. As a close friend of your family, you know my heart breaks with all of you. Each member of this family is in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that God will wrap his arms of love around you and help each of you throgh this very difficult time in your lives. I pray for peace and God's healing grace upon you. I have known and shared so much time with your family, I almost feel like a part of it. Jim & I thought so much of Herman. He was truly a wonderful man and such a kind person. His sometimes firm belief and strong willed nature is what saw him through to the end of his life. So he would not want us to morn his passing but rejoice in the memories and happy times of his life. So lift your eyes toward heaven and rejoice we will all be with him too one day. God bless each of you.
Love,
Jim & Kathy Shook, Chester, VA.
