Joyce Garner Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Apr. 7 to Apr. 11, 2010.
GARNER, Joyce Rogers, of Chesterfield, reached the end of life's journey here on earth on April 5, 2010. She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Lee Garner. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Marvin L. Garner; two grandchildren, Kristin and Cory Garner; and a brother and his wife, Jim and Betty Rogers. Joyce was a very proficient athlete, having played basketball and field hockey at Manchester High School and organized softball in several Richmond area leagues thereafter. She was one of the better 10 pin bowlers in Richmond for many years. She once held the highest average of any female bowler in the city. She later turned to golf and won many trophies in that sport. Golf remained her passion until her death. She had served on the board of directors of Meadowbrook Country Club, was a past president of the MWGA and past secretary of RWGA. A memorial service, a celebration of her life and a reception will be held in her honor on Thursday, April 15, at 5 p.m. at Meadowbrook Country Club, 3700 Cogbill Road, Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 980214, Richmond, Va. 23298-0214.

To the family,
I had the pleasure of meeting Joyce about 5 years ago on the golf course and she became a friend who touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dear Marvin, Jimmy, Red and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Joyce was
a wonderful lady. I looked so forward to the weekends when my friends would come from the big city and head to Mathews to enjoy their boat. They were great times and will never be forgotten. Mike always loved Joyce's decorations. (M&M'S)
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was so shocked and sadden to hear that Joyce is no longer with us. I loved seeing and being with her whenever I was fortunate to be in her company. Please know I am thinking of you and remembering all of the good times we shared. The wonderful rock fish outing I had with you wil remain one of the high lights of my life.katherine Pickle Naples, Fl. and Kilmarnock, Va

Marvin, I don't know what else to saw, except I'm so sorry! Joyce was a beautiful, intelligent, fun person and will be greatly missed by all. I so enjoyed our golfing trips to Nags Head and will really miss my "road buddy". My thoughts and prayers are with you.
