Joyce Garner

GARNER, Joyce Rogers, of Chesterfield, reached the end of life's journey here on earth on April 5, 2010. She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Lee Garner. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Marvin L. Garner; two grandchildren, Kristin and Cory Garner; and a brother and his wife, Jim and Betty Rogers. Joyce was a very proficient athlete, having played basketball and field hockey at Manchester High School and organized softball in several Richmond area leagues thereafter. She was one of the better 10 pin bowlers in Richmond for many years. She once held the highest average of any female bowler in the city. She later turned to golf and won many trophies in that sport. Golf remained her passion until her death. She had served on the board of directors of Meadowbrook Country Club, was a past president of the MWGA and past secretary of RWGA. A memorial service, a celebration of her life and a reception will be held in her honor on Thursday, April 15, at 5 p.m. at Meadowbrook Country Club, 3700 Cogbill Road, Richmond, Va.
