Kirsten Wolcott Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 26, 2009.
WOLCOTT, Kirsten Elisabeth, joined our family December 5, 1988. She finished her work on this Earth November 18, 2009 on the island of Yap, Micronesia, where she was volunteering as a student missionary for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She taught second grade and loved her students and the island beauty. Kirsten attended Tappahannock Junior Academy through 10th grade. She finished her high school education at Richmond Academy, graduating with high honors. Kirsten desired to be an elementary school teacher and was pursuing a degree in elementary education. She attended Southern Adventist University and had completed two years of her major as well as taking lessons on her pedal harp. Kirsten loved children, music, camping, hiking, backpacking, running and water sports, especially wakeboarding. Kirsten is survived by her two brothers, Nathan and Scott Wolcott; and her father and mother, Hollis and Karen Wolcott of Laneview; her maternal grandparents, Dr. Niels and Mrs.Tove Oster of Dunnsville; her aunts and uncles, Jim and Julie Wolcott, Ann and Steve Irby, Ida Minter, Linda and Gunnar Lovhoiden, Peter and Kelli Oster, David and Judie Oster; and her cousins, Ben and Jon Wolcott, Kandy Lindsey, Erika and Danielle Bebout, Knut, Thomas and Benjamin Lovhoiden, Kamila, Zoe and Soren Oster, and Justin Oster. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Tappahannock Seventh-day Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers which are so perishable, Hollis and Karen Wolcott suggest a donation in Kirsten's honor be made to Kirsten Wolcott Memorial Fund. This fund will be used for two purposes; to support Christian education which so profoundly influenced Kirsten's life; and to support student missionaries in whose ranks she so proudly served, Tappahannock SDA Church, P.O. Box 1106 Tappahannock, Va. 22560. Arrangements by Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock.

I am one of the SM's in the Marshall Islands and I can't imagine how the family must feel right now. It could have easily be one of us too. My prayers and thoughts are with the family right now.
May God use this tragic event to spread the gospel.

Dear Hollis, Karen, and Family,

Words seem totally inadequate to express our sympathy and support at this time. Our two daughters, four nephews, and three nieces have served as student missionaries. As you may know, missionary blood flows through them via grandparents Carl and Anna Houmann. We know that this chain of service will continue through others, and may it hasten the day when we can all be reunited.

Our deepest sympathy to your family. Kirsten was always so kind and loving to everyone she came in contact with; her love for Jesus shined through her. Kirsten's dedication and love gives us peace in knowing that when the trumpet sounds and the dead in Christ rise she will be ready to meet her Savior. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

We're so sorry for your loss. Though her life was too short, she will never be forgotten. Our hearts are breaking with yours this time. Our only hope rests in Jesus. May He give you peace and strength to get through these days and to know that Kirsten's tomorrow will be glorious - waking to the call of Jesus. Praise God! Love and miss you all.

Hollis, Karen, Nathan & Scott (and all of your family and many friends), It is with deep sympathy that I send this message to you in this time of your loss of Kirsten. How do we get through such a tragedy? One day at a time. It's a gradual process that we all know we will face one day, sooner or later. We prefer that it be, of course, much later. I wish I could be there to give you all a big hug and to cry with you, for there's such moral support in sharing like experiences. You were there for us in our time of sorrow just two years ago with our daughter, Kelly, 22 years old. I can hardly wait for Jesus to come again! May we do everything we can to help spread the word to the world that Jesus loves us all, and wants us home with Him for eternity! That is what Kirsten would want if she could tell us, I'm sure. My love and prayers and thoughts will continue through the days, months, and years ahead. Feel free to contact me. You know I'll do anything I can to try and help. One of my favorite songs that Judy Haile's group used to sing was "Through It All". God sends others to help us get through times like this. With much love!

We are saddened by the death of our fellow missionary. I served Yap Micronesia in 2004-2005, and I know how Kirsten loved the beauty of the place and the school. Being a missionary is very challenging but very rewarding. From Yap, i am now serving in Ebeye, Marshall Islands. Yap, has a greatest part in my life as a missionary.

May Kirsten's life will remain an inspiration to those missionaries serving around world. Kirsten is working with my fellow filipina in Yap this school year, she said she will continue to work for the Lord like how Kirsten did to the school. My brother who is working in the internet cafe' of Yap, told me that he likes Kirsten so much as a missionary, she always stood up without hesitation whenever he would ask her to lead church song services. He adds, that Kirsten is very active in church activities, simple and very talented. Her life would remain an inspiration to her students and church members in Yap.

Our prayers are with you all especially to the parents who lost such a dear daughter. " There is no tears that heaven cannot heal." Keep your faith in God, for everything there is a reason.
Jesus is coming soon, we will meet Kirsten again in the clouds of glory!

Hollis & Karen,

Our hearts goes out to you. We don't know what to say except that the world is a better place because of Kirsten. You will be in our thoughts and prayers as well as the prayers of our church family. Now we have all the more reason to echo John's plea "Even so come Lord Jesus".

It's a sad thing to hear something like this since I am a micronesian. I am from Palau which is not that far away from Yap. I also attend a SDA School here in Palau. I am very sorry for your loss. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers always. God Bless you.
