He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria Wise Bylund; his daughter, Lisa Bylund King and her husband, Christian, of St. Paul, Minn.; his son, Eric Bylund of Richmond; two grandchildren, Ian and Bryn King of St. Paul, Minn.; and his sister, Ruth B. Asbell of Muncie, Ind. Mr. Bylund received a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1943, where he also was elected to the engineering honorary fraternity, Tau Beta Pi. In 1975, the University awarded him the title of "Distinguished Alumnus." Mr. Bylund served as an officer in the United States Navy during World War II. Lin's life calling was metallurgical engineering, and he worked for Reynolds Metals Company for over 37 years. He retired as Director of Metallurgical Engineering Development in 1984. Mr. Bylund joined the Unitarian Church of Richmond in 1953 and was Chairman of the Property Committee at the Floyd Avenue church and then on the Architectural Committee for the building of the new church on Blanton Ave. The congregation elected him to the Executive Board of the church for several different terms. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at First Unitarian Universalist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1000 Blanton Ave., Richmond, Va. 23221, or the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
