Marea Noonan Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Apr. 20, 2010.
NOONAN, Marea Elizabeth Webster, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. She is survived by her son, W. Christopher Noonan (Elaine); three granddaughters, Cindy Parkinson Faya (John), Grace Weaver Clodfelter (Marc) and Elisa Noonan Hokirk (Will Strange); and seven great-grandchildren, who dearly loved and will greatly miss their "Nana." Mea was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, William J. Noonan Jr.; and her daughter, Marea Noonan Weaver. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mea attended Friends Central School and graduated from Moore College of Art. Although she resided for a time in Germantown and Fort Washington, Pa., Mea's true passion was for Long Beach Island, N.J., an area in which her family has lived for over 125 years. A longtime member of the Spray Beach Yacht Club, Mea was also active in the Long Beach Island Garden Club, the Long Beach Island Historical Association and the Episcopal Church Women's group of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Beach Haven, N.J. For the last four years Mea lived in Richmond, Va., where she continued to sharpen her Bridge-playing skills at St. Mary's Woods retirement community with her many friends and tablemates. Mea will be missed for her ready smile, encouraging words and solid faith in God. Her family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary's Woods, Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital, Bon Secours Hospice group and the Rev. Bambi Willis for their loving, compassionate care, especially during Mea's final illness. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marea Noonan will be held in the Community Room of St. Mary's Woods on Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. For family and friends in New Jersey, there will be another memorial service and interment of ashes on Saturday, May 15, at 1 p.m. at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Beach Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the LBI Historical Association, Engleside and Beach Avenues, Beach Haven, N.J. 08008.
