EDWARDS, Margaret Stempel, 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at home, surrounded by family members. Margaret was born May 22, 1920, at "Oak Cliff" in Cluster Springs, Halifax County, Virginia. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Bray and Annie Carrington Stempel; and was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Herbert H. "Hank" Edwards; and her sisters, Laura S. Nichols, Ann S. Robertson and Rose S. Hall. Margaret was a faithful member of Courtland United Methodist Church. She and her husband owned and operated Edwards Hardware Company in Courtland for most of their lives. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, sisters, and friends. Margaret was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed vacationing at Atlantic Beach, N.C. She is survived by her sister, Sue S. Whiton; her two sons, Herbert H. Edwards Jr. and his wife, Lindsey Epps Edwards, of Lynchburg, Va., and Robert Bray "Bob" Edwards and his wife, Lisa Faison Edwards, of Courtland; five grandchildren, Carrington, Chrissie, Meggie, Paul, and Madison Edwards. The funeral service will be held on at 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Courtland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 10. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Southampton Memorial Hospital and her home caregivers for their loving care and special attention.
