I had the pleasure of working with Mary through the VRA. She was terrific at the work she did and an absolutely wonderful person. Her positive and confident attitude spread throughout the room. I send my sympathy, thoughts and prays to her family and I will miss her.

My sincere condolences to Mary's family. I worked with Mary at Hunton & Williams and was happy to see she had returned. Even though it had been a while, I recognized her smiling face. We recently had a chat leaving work one night. I will miss Mary very much.

The Barnes Family,
I am so sorry for your loss of such a dear person. I knew Mary through the YMCA - she was always smiling and pleasant to everyone. The morning Y crowd (which I am a part of) is such a different group in that everyone seems to know each other and becomes close to one another, she will be so missed by all of us at the Y. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad and difficult time.
Sincerely, Bonnie Messer Smallwood

Mary Barnes taught me a lot working through various bond closings with VRA. She was always patient and positive and I enjoyed seeing her at the VGFOA conferences. She will be sorely missed in the local government finance community.

To my dear friends and second family, The Barnes Family - I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know Mary is enjoying her reunion with her
Daddy and many other dear friends/family - but it is hard to imagine life here on earth without her. I hope you all find comfort in the thought that you will see her again in our eternal home - and she will meet you with lots of hugs and smiles. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time and always. God bless you all, and remember that you are loved by so many here on earth and in heaven.
Love,
Caroline "Linus" Johns

Mary was one of the first people I met at the Downtown Y when I started there many years ago. She was such a warm, loving person, whose deep affection for her family was apparent in everything she did. I will miss her, and she will always hold a special place in my heart. I will keep your family close in prayer and pray that God's arms will circle all of you giving you strength in the days ahead.

She will always be remembered in our hearts. May the Spirit of Christ comfort each of you during this difficult time.
