Ola CARTER Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home - Chippenham from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1, 2009.
CARTER, Ola Guza "Bunny," "Mama," "Mamaw," passed away on October 29, 2009 at the age of 95. She leaves us to greet her father, mother, sister; and her hardheaded husband, Owen Carter; and her irreplaceable daughter, Donna Jean Parrish in Heaven. Her passing, though hard to bear, is made a little easier by the thought that those blue eyes are twinkling once again at the sight of Donna Jean. This one of a kind Mama is survived by her son, Richard Allen Carter (Peggy); daughters, Dianne Groff and Darlene Woods; grandchildren, Cheryl, Ricky, Sylvia, Vicky, Janet, Brad, Sherri, Johnny and Travis. She is also survived by nine great-grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren. Her life was spent caring for her family and the many children of other families, who became part of ours over the years, such as Barbara and Jimmy Mullins and their children, Cheryl and Lynn. She worked in her later years at K-Mart, returning to the babysitting routine in 1999 to keep her great-granchild, Krystal Marie, whom she often called her favorite. Her neighbors, Vicky and "Chic" Terrell, and Jane and Jesse Spain became an extended family as well, keeping a close eye on her after the passing of our father in 1977. She affectionately referred to Chic as "Her Man." "Maw" Carter and her girls could be found almost anywhere, as the four of us became best friends. Trips to Nags Head where she would tell us we couldn't eat but two meals a day, while asking continually where we were going to eat! At Christmas we could be found standing behind our father's marker in Pine Grove Cemetery, complete with Santa Hats and reindeer antlers, laughing and waiting for the timer on a camera to go off, and sniffing jingle bells "Don't Ask"! While she was alive, we celebrated her birthdays in special ways. Her favorite being the rides in the rumble seat of a Model T of her youth. Although we were unable to attain a Model T for this trip, she will, as she requested, have six good looking men carry her away! "Loving you always and missing you already." Her remains rest at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Pine Grove Cemetery, Amelia, Va.
