I've only recently learned of Bob's passing and am truly saddened at his loss. He was a dedicated lawyer, and I considered him a friend. It has been over 15 years since I worked at Williams Mullen, but I have never forgotten him. My sincerest condolences to his family.

I had the privilege of working with Bob while I was at Williams Mullen - he kept me in awe at his intellect, in envy at his incredible memory, in gratitude at his patience & generosity, in deep thought at his legal discourse, and in stitches at his witty sense of humor. He was the kind of person you just wanted to sit and listen to. Not everyone can look back and know that their presence on this earth made a positive difference to a huge multitude of people, but without a doubt, Bob's did. As he wrote in my going away card when I left Williams Mullen - Bob, you were always a big fish in a little pond...

I will remember Bob as a "lawyer's lawyer," the attorney who would be asked for his views on difficult issues. His sense of humor and generous heart set him apart from the crowd. Bob's life made a difference--he will be missed.

Dick and I express our deepest sympathy to Pat, Jim and all of the family in their loss. We are so saddened that illness nudged its way into Bob’s life—Pat, your devotion to him during this time was more than words can express.
It was a true joy for me to work with Bob for twenty-one years, almost half of his stellar career at Williams Mullen. Mostly ups and very few downs made Bob’s career quite a challenge for anyone to equal. I know he will sorely be missed by those who had the privilege to work with him and by the legal profession in the State.
Bob was truly a unique human being, and my life was enriched by knowing him and working with him. He was a good man.
