Anna Lee Huffman Moynihan, 89, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, peacefully at her residence surrounded by family.
Ann was born on June 1, 1936, in Shenandoah, and was a daughter of the late Edgar Lee and Margaret Madeline Davis Huffman. A graduate of Madison College (B.S.) and the University of Virginia (M.Ed.) she taught mathematics at Turner Ashby High School for 25 years. Prior to moving to TAHS, she taught at Elkton Elementary and was the last teacher at the Simmons Gap one-room schoolhouse. After completing 34 years with Rockingham County Schools, she taught at James Madison University for 5 years.
She filled her retirement years traveling with her husband, enjoying time with her children and grandchildren, and camping with good friends. An active member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, she donated countless hours working with refugees resettling in the Harrisonburg area, teaching Sunday school and many lay ministry activities.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful women who loved and cared for Ann as she battled Alzheimer's Disease.
For over 71 years, she was married to James Joseph Moynihan, II, who survives.
In addition to her husband, Ann is survived by her children, Manon Maria Moynihan and husband, Ray Williams of Manakin-Sabot, VA, James Joseph "Joe" Moynihan, III and wife, Dawn of Greensboro, GA, and Terri Ann Moynihan Snidow and husband, Bob of Midlothian, VA; sisters, Doris Warner, and Mildred "Millie" Johnson, both of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church at 11:00am.
The family will receive friends following the service
Graveside services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to Muhlenberg Lutheran Church.
