Its been 9 years since you left us. I think I was in Baltimore, Md. My heart skipped a beat when I heard the news. I can still remember seeing you ... laughing and joking with you ... I remember the good times and the bad. We started kindergarten together. We walked home together. We went to Ebony Island together ... caught the bus over there and walked to Jackson Ward to see Simone Robinson nearly every Saturday. I always cherished my friendship with you ... good or bad. You were extremely popular and that was cool with me since I knew who and what you were made of. I knew your family and they knew mine. You came from the bottom (Westend) and I came from the top (Westend). We knew the same people, ... you probably knew more ... The Creator of this world picked you in 2010. He knew that it was your time to come home. Of course you obliged ... since that was the type of person you were ... obliging. Rod you will forever remain in my thoughts ... Lorenzo Lo Young 2019

There is no timetable for grieving, so I want my husband and my in-laws to know I'm there for them if they need to talk, or need a hug. We miss Rodney coming over to our house and asking me to make him coffee, always black. My husband misses his brother so much.

I was so shocked to learn that Rodney had passed away. I remember Rodney from our days at Albert Hill Middle as well as at JHW. My sister Willistine and I can testify that Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. My family, my parents, have buried 5 sisters and brothers, sons and daughters. We think about our family members everyday but the pain gets easier to bare. Your faith in God, friends and family, will pull you out of darkness and into His marvelous light. Just remember that this battle is not yours it's the Lord's. JHW class of 86

I got to know my brother-in-law pretty well after marrying Tyrone, aka Ron, in 2002. Rodney was a man of a few words when I knew him, yet I always understood what he was thinking and feeling through his eyes and smile, and he always made sure he asked me how I was doing, even up to the end. The McCollum's are a strong, united family, united by their faith in God which sustains them and their obvious love for each other, with amazing parents at their helm.
