Sara Boschen Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Dec. 18, 2009.
BOSCHEN, Sara Fink, 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Sara was born April 3, 1922 in Jonesborough, Tenn. to Lena and Paul Fink. She grew up in Jonesborough, graduating from high school in 1940. Sara attended college at East Tennessee State University, graduating in 1943. During her youth, Sara developed a strong interest in scouting and worked for the National Girl Scouts of America Organization after she graduated from college. While Sara collected many badges and honors as a Girl Scout, perhaps the one she was most proud of was her Marksmanship Merit Badge. In 1947, Sara married Ray Boschen of Richmond, Va. They remained married for 55 years, during which time they lived first in North Carolina, then Virginia, finally settling in Aberdeen, Md., where the couple lived for 32 years. In 1995, Ray and Sara returned to Richmond, Va. Sara had an enduring passion for music and began playing piano before the age of 10. She played both piano and later organ and her home was never without a piano. Sara also taught music in the Hartford County, Maryland Public Schools for 18 years. She completed a master's degree in music education at Towson State University in 1976. Sara was a kind, generous and accepting person. She will be missed by her family and friends. Her husband, Ray, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Fink of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two daughters, Beth Hicks of Fall Branch, Tenn. and Sara Tardanico of Miami, Fla.; one son, John Boschen of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Ganon Hicks, Karen Boschen, Andrew Boschen, Joseph Tardanico and Lea Tardanico. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 8709 Quaker Lane, Richmond, Va. 23235, or a contribution to your local food bank. Arrangements were entrusted to Nelsen Funeral Home.

Please accept my condolences. Your mother sounded like a very remarkable woman. I am a Boschen also. My great-grandfather was Robert Wiley Boschen. He had a brother named John Henry Boschen who had 3 sons and 1 daughter. One of his sons was John Ray Boschen. I was wondering if this was her husband. I am working on a family history book. You can contact me if you are interested in sharing any family history. Again I am sorry for you loss. Donna Boschen Mourtzakis
