Stuart Wray Martin

MARTIN, Stuart Wray, 83, of Richmond, passed away on December 19, 2009. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mariam D. Martin; and their four daughters, Colleen M. Herbig and husband, John, Patricia M. Smith and husband, Nelson, Bonnie Jo Martin and Lydia M. Mayo and husband, Robert. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Stuart was awarded the Purple Heart on July 24, 1945 after serving with the United States Marine Corps, First Separation Company, MCB during the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was a member of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church for 41 years. He worked for Greentrees, Berry Burk Co. and later retired from Franco's Fine Clothier. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Bliley's - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where a funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday. Interment will follow at the Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Generation Fund, in memory of Stuart W. Martin, Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Rd., Henrico, Va. 23228, or Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Voluntary Services Fund #1002, 135 Hunter Homes, VA Medical Center, 1201 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, Va. 23249.
