When his mother brought him to our house right after he was born and I was 8 years old. She let me hold him and give him his bottle. We started with that connection and reconnected often over the years. He is still sorely missed for his kind heart and pleasant ways.....Pictured here on the left with his late mother and sisters.

I still sorely miss my regular phone calls with my cousin Bill, even after his being gone 13 years. He was such a bright light in many of our lives for so many years before he went to God. I pray that we see each other again someday on the other side....

November 20, 2011

I remember the day I met Mr. Bryant back in August 1979. At the advice of a friend, I interviewed for the position of Office/Library Aide at Speer Elementary. I had moved moved to Texas the year before and had taught in Oklahoma but did not have a Texas certificate. Mr. Bryant had a way of talking to me that was like visiting with a long-time friend and he hired me that day. He made everyone feel important and needed and could always bring a smile and laugh to my day no matter how hectic it was. The staff and students loved and respected him.

Mr. Bryant,I know that God has a special place for you and is saying,"Well done, thou good and faithful servant!...Come and share your master's happiness." Matthew 25:23

Margie, I am praying for you in your sadness that God will hold you very close.

Grace & Peace,

Just found out of Billy's departure , I would run into Billy about every two years somewhere and the last time I saw him was in Walmart . He was looking great ! I guess that was two about years ago . The memory of many of us piling into His Mother's car, back in the 70's, Sandy who was my best friend during those times off we all went to the State Fair was one of the best times ever! We had a Blast! I will miss you , you were always there for me. God bless your family in their sorrow and loss

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Bill at Dominion for about 5 years before I left. Bill was always pleasant and funny as well. He could crack a joke with the best of them. He was a spiritual man and you didn't have to look far to see that. It was reflected in his work ethic and the way he treated everyone. He will be missed greatly but we'll all see each other again someday - Praise God!!

To Charlotte Bryant and her sons whom I do not know other than by her very obvious and positive influence on my cousin Billy Bryant. This speaks to her and for her on her influence. In reference to a notation I saw recalling seeing Charlotte and Billy going to church together, I write; Christianity acts first upon woman, because, from the gentleness and tractability of her nature, she is more susceptible of the influence of its law of purity and love; and when she is thus regenerated, who shall declare the extent of her chastening influence over the sons of the children of men? Under the elevating and benign influences of Christianity, she proceeds to subdue, to reform, to ennoble, and perfect everything around her; and, by this supernatural power, she so softens the affections and refines the feelings of the Lord of creation, as to dispose him to prefer the purity and confidence of domestic love, over the selfish and utter isolation of a life of self indulgence.

I first came to know Bill in June 2001, when the lawyers in the Dominion Law Department at 701 East Cary Street all moved to Dominion's headquarters on Tredegar Street. Over the next eight and one-half years, I saw Bill frequently -- often daily. I will always remember a vigorous and friendly man moving in, out and about the buildings on the Tredegar Street campus, attending to his daily responsibilities. It was obvious that Bill Spicer and Jim Sprouse, who reported to him, liked, respected and were devoted to him. Whenever I had a facilities-related question or issue, Bill was always happy to respond and more than willing to help. During his illness, he never complained, and he maintained a positive attitude. It was plain to me that Bill was a fellow believer -- truly a "letter from Christ" and "Christ's ambassador." However, I did not take the initiative to discuss with Bill our shared faith in the Lord. In retrospect, I greatly regret that. Bill had a positive impact on everyone with whom he came in contact. He was the embodiment of what the late Rev. R.B. Thieme, Jr., former Pastor of Berachah Church in Houston, TX, called the "invisible hero" in the Christian life. Bill's absence from Dominion's Tredegar Street headquarters is almost palpable. I shall miss him, and never shall forget him. Bill, you have "fought the good fight; you "have finished the course; and you "have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. Although I share in the grief that your family and colleagues are now experiencing, nonetheless I am thankful that you are now in Heaven face-to-face with the Lord, and that you are free of cancer and you no longer experience pain.

May peace be with your family during this time of grieving. I remember Billy as a boy visiting my mother (Lucille Bryant Morris) with Uncle Willie. I wish I knew him as an adult, as so many warm things have been said of him here. My heart goes out to all his loving family and friends.

I write with a very heavy sigh in my heart. I learned of my cousin Billy's battle and loss only today when I contacted my cousin Richard Bryant. Rich had spent personal time with Billy and told me details that was difficult to believe. The last time I saw cousin Billy was when he, Richard Clay Bryant, and I (William Maury Morris (and 1/2 Bryant like the rest of my Bryant cousins here) were diving off a 60 foot in 1982! Billy had been used to jumping off bridges. I was used to the quarries outside of Buckingham. Richard was just a city boy but made the fearsome jump. Billy did a beautiful swan dive that I could not compete with so I did a full gainer, or "reverse flip". Billy and I had lived with uncle Willie (Wm Jos Bryant Sr) in a house outside of Richmond for awhile. I never knew that Billy had a wife and children but a lot of time had passed and we had no communication just like most of us cousins here now have had no communications. Cousin Mary Bryant is a cancer survivor though and an amazing woman in many fields. What to say, I feel the grief, I have no bad memories of any of my cousins and I am the oldest of them all via Bryant family. I should pass on before the younger ones, I have had a full and good life but who knows what will happen but GOD Almighty? HE has our cousin now and Billy isn't suffering in GOD'S Hands. Too young though! Cosin Richard tells me that Billy worked in South America building homes and that is something else incredible. I have never known of any faults in Billy -- he was a very fine cousin. I do note that in this strange way he has brought his family -- our family --us all together here. How strange it is to meet this way after so many decades. I thank all who have written here and especially Billy's friends who were friends without being related. I have one life-long best friend and it looks like Billy Bryant had more than that which is good. May GOD watch over us all and for now mostly for Billy's family. I suppose he is with uncle Willie by now, one of my favorite uncles and one of my favorite cousins, and both had cancer - both are gone from me being able to write or talk with them. I have a lifetime of memories though, decades worth from childhood til now. I remember living on Grandaddy Bryant's farm and how that farm was laid out. Grandaddy Bryant was living until I was age 7. I can only write of good things here and I suppose that is best. I would hope that some of my cousins write to me. Let us all keep in touch at least via Internet. GOD Bless you all. Your cousin, "Billy" -- married and living happily in Texas.

My prayers and deepest sympathy to all of Billy's family. I got to know Billy (when I was a kid) while visiting my brother Richard in Virginia one summer. I remember how much he loved his family. I especially remember how he was always smiling, laughing... making others laugh. As sad as I feel right now, that memory makes me smile!
It's a human spirit like his that makes this world a better place. Now he has gone home to God...to again be with his Mom & Dad...and Heaven is shining brighter.
Love Always,
(your cousin)Christine

Charlotte, I know we do not see each other very much but I have kept you and your family in my prayer journal for a very long time now. We all know Bill has gone to a much better place, but it's sad when we are separated from our loved ones when they go before us. How blessed Bill was to have you by his side. I'm sure he experienced God like he has never before because of his illness. I will continue to keep you and the boys in my prayers.

I love you,
Bonita

Bill Bryant was an exceptional person who cared much more about others than himself. He was a great example to others as to how to live a good Christian life.

I am very sorry to hear about his passing and pray that god supports his wonderful family in this their time of need as they give him back to our lord.
