WILLIAM DUKE Obituary

DUKE, William E. Jr., 70, of Henrico, Va., a loving husband, father and friend, passed away on December 17, 2009. He was predeceased by his parents, William E. Duke Sr. and Viola Eddleton Duke. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Hope Kelly Duke; three sons, Emory Duke III (Linda), Christopher Duke (Robin) and John Duke (Linda); one daughter, Adrienne Duke; nine grandchildren, Ashley Glasco, Kristin, Danielle and Elizabeth Duke, and Brittany Zicafoose, Hylton, Porsha and Tylor Duke; two great-grandchildren, Kaleigh and Carter Glasco; one brother, David T. Duke; three sisters, Sadie Moon, Martha Ingersoll and Eugenia Lee Riddle; and six nieces and nephews. Mr. Duke was the president and co-founder of W.E. Duke and Sons, Inc., later known as Duke Contracting of Virginia. The family will receive friends Monday, December 21, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, December 22, at 2 p.m. at Glen Allen Baptist Church, 3028 Mountain Rd., Glen Allen. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Welfare League of Kilmarnock, Virginia or the charity of your choice.

Dear Hope and family: I am Billy's first cousin Sondra. I think so much of Billy Boy and my heart was broken when I heard of the accident. I am so thankful that I have seen him so recently at Sadie Layne's memorial service. I had a wonderful picture of Billy and myself that I am going to put in a little frame and always remember what a wonderful man he was and also that when God calls us home we go.
