Mildred Rittenhouse Obituary

SHICKSHINNY — Mildred A. Rittenhouse, 87, a former resident of Bethel Hill, Shickshinny, passed away Nov. 26, 2013, in Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater.

She was born June 19, 1926, in Bethel Hill, Shickshinny, the tenth child of the late Ralph S. and Frances Dohl Harvey.

She was a member of the Bethel Hill United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for many years. She was also past president of the Bethel Hill Women's Society and taught adult Sunday school.

Mildred and her husband, John, built their home in Pleasant Valley, Shickshinny, and raised a family there.

She attended a one-room school and later graduated from Huntington Mills High School, class of 1946. She served as class president for two years and was valedictorian of the class of 1946. Mildred also served as Fairmount Township auditor for many years.

Her husband, John W. Rittenhouse, preceded her in death in 2004, as well as ten siblings.

Surviving are her daughters, Ann Louise Hoover and her husband, Gregg, Sweet Valley, with whom Mildred resided after her husband, John, passed away, and Kim Judge and her husband, Tom, Sweet Valley; son, Larry J. Rittenhouse and his companion, Michele, Sweet Valley; six grandchildren, Eric Rittenhouse, Carrie Hoover McClure, Rhiannon Judge, Ezra Judge, all of Sweet Valley, Sara Fritz and her husband, Geoff, Allentown, and Wade Hoover and his wife, Morgan, Altoona; great-grandchildren, Grace and George Fritz and Boston Hoover; many nieces and nephews; and sister, Fannie Kocher, Sweet Valley.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Bethel Hill United Methodist Church, Bethel Hill Road, Shickshinny, with Michael Bodek, pastor, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek.

No one could ask for a better aunt than my Aunt Millie. She and Uncle John were the perfect team, I know because God put them together. I always remember her smiling every time she came across the road to Grandma Ritts house. We love you Aunt Millie and we will see you again.
