George Schleifer Obituary

SCHLEIFER George Thomas Stoney Schleifer, 80, recently of Spring Valley, MN, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Grand Meadow Care Center with Denise holding his hand. George was survived by his wife Denise Caldwell, son Scott Schleifer, wife Dee Paez, grands Jennifer and Joe Paez of Jacksonville, step daughter Pamela Freet, husband Joe, grands Sarah and Lily of Spring Valley, step son Thomas Moorhead, wife Liza, grands Chloe, Natalie and James of Castle Rock CO, Montana his cat and Curly his dog. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Verna (Fahler), and siblings Betty, Pat, Johnny, Donald and Priscilla. George was born in Allentown, PA and grew up in Philadelphia. He was educated in the Catholic school system and served in the Army in Germany during the mid 50's. In 1959, he married Marie Didio and became a father. In 1982, he moved to Jacksonvile, FL and began a new life. In June 1996 he was introduced to Denise Caldwell and, after nine and a half years of courting, they were married on December 31, 2005. George worked most of his life in auto sales, many years with the Coggin Group and Hanania Automotive Group. He enjoyed golf, poker, blackjack, cruises, rooting for his football team and, most of all, a good party. George was a tireless volunteer. He was a founding member of Unity Church for Creative Living (UCCL) and served the church for many years. He became involved with LifeStream Seminars as a student and as a mentor. He won a 12 Who Care award for his work with Barbara Green and the kids in the Selective Alternative for Vocational Education (SAVE) program of Duval County schools. A memorial service was held October 28, 2015 at his home in Spring Valley, Pastor Loel Wessel officiating. A final memorial service will be held on December 31, 2015 at 2pm at UCCL, Therese Quinn and Reverends John & Marlene Davis will officiate. Memorial donations may be made in George's name to UCCL, 2777 Race Track Road, St. Johns, FL 32259.
