Darst Grund Obituary
Darst Fletcher Grund, age 79, passed away at his home in Cheboygan, MI, on September 16th, 2017. He was born May 2, 1938 in Toledo, OH to the late Frieda and Walden Grund. Darst graduated from Libbey High School in 1956 and earned degrees from Baldwin-Wallace and The Ohio State University. He worked as a food technologist for Gerber Baby Food for 35 years and formulated Gerber Graduates baby food. Upon retiring he moved to Black Lake, MI.
He was an active member in the Methodist churches both in Fremont and Cheboygan, singing in the choirs, member of the Men's Bible Study and helping people in the community.
He was married to Margaret (Peggy) DeMars for 48 years until her passing. Darst is survived by his three children, Theodore (Susan) Grund, Janesville, WI, Stephen (Anna) Grund, Columbus, OH, Deborah (Mike) Aked, Maumee, OH; and his sister, Janice (Alan) Lane, Maumee, OH; and Nick (Cheryl) Davis, Carmel, IN and Deidre (Bill) Davis, East Lansing, MI. He loved his four granddaughters, Maria, Sophie, Madeline and Allison Grund immensely.
Darst had a strong work ethic, supported his sons by coaching and set a good example for his children. On November 24, 2012, Darst married Eloise Davis and enjoyed the Northern Michigan life for many years. Eloise lovingly took care of him and helped him transition into heaven. Darst fought Lymphoma for12 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vital Care Hospice of the Straits, 761 Lafayette Ave., Cheboygan, MI 49721. A memorial service will be held on Oct. 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Northshore Community Church in Cheboygan, MI.
