Warner Edward "Doc" Leonard

Warner "Doc" Edward Leonard Doc to his friends, Papa to his granddaughters Warner passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on 2/20/2011. He was born in Mitchell, SD to Arthur and Hazel Leonard on 8/7/1930. Warner was raised in Huron, SD and graduated class of 1948 from Huron High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 6/3/1948 and retired on 6/30/1978. During his career he served on many ships, U.S. Marine Corps units, naval hospitals, Staff and Embassy Duty. He was a proud veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring, he went to work for the USPS in Olympia, WA from 1978 to 1992. Afterward he did a lot of traveling and enjoying of his hobbies, including music and mushrooming. Warner survived lung cancer in 1996 and was active until cancer struck again in 1/10. Thank you to Dr. Larson, Dr. Graff and Dr. Buchanon for getting him through the first one. Thank you to Dr. Ladoux, Dr. Chitaley and Patricia Cromwell, R.N. for helping him to get as far as he wanted to go on the second. Warner is survived by his wife Shigeko, son Travis, daughter Sharon, and the three stars: his granddaughters Mina, Kaylee, and Kianna. He is also survived by his sister Myrna and nephews Jimmie, Johnny, and Mark and niece Brenda. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, UFW, Amvets, and Puyallup Eagles Aerie. A viewing will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home from 8 am to 11:30 am Monday, 2/28. The funeral service will be held at 1:15 pm Monday, 2/28 at Tahoma National Cemetery.
