Elsie "Betty" Messer RICHLANDS, Va. Elsie "Betty" Messer, age 76, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010. Born Nov. 17, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Harmon and Willie Mae Smith Gilbert. She retired from K-Mart in 1999. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Messer; and two sons, Ricky Lee Messer and Randy Kevin Messer. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Messer and wife Debbie of Richlands and Jeffrey Messer and wife Michelle of Richlands; one brother, Leonard Gilbert and wife Pansy of Cedar Bluff, Va.; three sisters, Dorothy Roberts, Mable McGlothlin and Ann Dills and husband Jody, all of Richlands; two granddaughters, Sarah Messer and Emily Messer; one great-grandson, Dakota Thomas Musick; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff with Rev. Monte Elswick officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff. I am so sorry for the loss of Betty. My prayers and sympathy are with you Tom, Jeff, sisters and brother. We will always remember her.

It was very sad to read of the passing of Betty. I have many great childhood memories of her and visits to her home. She was my cousin on my Grandmother/Father's side of the family. She will be missed.
