James Stergios Obituary

James C. Stergios Jr. James C. Stergios Jr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 18, at Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends. He fought a fierce and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 5, 1940, in Bristol Virginia. He was the son of the late Margaret P. Stergios and James C. Stergios. Jim went to work at 16 at Blevins Funeral Home. He worked as a surveyor for the State of Virginia. He was a police officer in Bristol Tennessee for 10 years attaining the rank of captain. At Green Valley Rehabilitation Center, he worked as a program coordinator. He taught at Walters State Community College, the University of Florida and East Tennessee State University. Later, he was a real estate agent for Coldwell Bankers. He earned his bachelor of science and masters degrees at East Tennessee State University and did post graduate work at the University of Florida. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, but his greatest love was his family, friends, and church. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Betty Beidleman Stergios; and their beloved son, James C. Stergios III. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Wynn Beidleman and his fianc‚e Carolyn Wilson, and James Beildman and wife Sharon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great- nieces and great-nephews. Special thanks to the members of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church and to his many friends for their love, support, and many kindnesses throughout his brief illness. The family would also like to thank Joanne Tolliver for her constant encouragement and faithful attention to our family needs. The funeral service for James C. Stergios will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Light officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7:45 p.m. prior to the service. The entombment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Glenwood Mausoleum. Active pallbearers will be Jeff McAmis, Johnny Wood, Dewayne Vaughn, Mickey Raines, Mike Carty, and Andy Nicely. Honorary pallbearers will be the men at Holston Hardware, John Allen, Floyd Johnson, Ron Jessee, and Larry Quales. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 431 Jonesboro Road, Bristol, TN 37620. Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home.
