William Wayne "Bill" Keene GRUNDY, Va. William Wayne "Bill" Keene, 70 years of age of the Slate Creek Section, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va., following an extended illness. Born in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Arnold and Thelma Horn Keene. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Vansant Baptist Church. He graduated from Garden High School Class of 1959, and attended ETSU. Mr. Keene was very instrumental, in establishing the Miners and Merchants Bank Trust Co. in 1975, serving on the Board of Directors for many years. He owned Cardinal Supply and Lumber Co. Inc., Cardinal Tire and Recap. Inc, Cardinal Fuel, Inc., K&P Oil Co., and Carol's Jewelry and Gift Shoppe. Bill established and co-owned Buckhanan Supply Co. Inc., Commonwealth Bolt, Inc., Cardinal Metals, Inc., as well as many other businesses that he owned and co-owned. Mr. Keene is survived by his wife, Carol Looney Keene, Grundy; two daughters, Tamera "Tammy" Lynnette Keene, Grundy, and Margo Layne Keene, Grundy; and two sons, William Wayne Keene II, Grundy, and Jonathan Shane Keene, Abingdon. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Keene. Funeral services for William Wayne "Bill" Keene will be conducted Thursday, March 3, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ancil Childress, Evg. Curtis Crouse and the Rev. Don Tittle officiating with entombment to follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Va. Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday evening, March 2, 2011, at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Curtis Crouse, Kenny Smith, Johnnie Keene, Willie Keene, Bobby Keene, Roger Meadows, Harold Creed Jr., and Dave Shannahan. Honorary pallbearers will be Willard "Duck" Keene, Walden Keene, Don Keene, Bernard Keene, Fred Shortridge, Johnny Munsey, Bob Nassif, Mel Keen, Harold Creed, Francis Coleman and Viola Meadows.
