Robert Read Obituary

Robert McCowan "Mac" Read 1927 - 2012 Robert McCowan "Mac" Read was reunited with his eternal companion, Audrey Ostler Read, May 27, 2012. Mac was born September 30, 1927, to Alonzo and Lucy Robinson Read in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since Lucy died when Mac was young he was lovingly raised by his doting sisters and beloved stepmother, Grace Cherry Read. A true disciple of Jesus Christ, Mac served six missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, four of which beside his favorite companion, Audrey. Mac's most beloved converts to the Gospel were his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Mac and Audrey have five children, Gayle (Bill) Hadfield, R. Mark (formerly married to the late Susan Cobb), Barbara (Gregg) Page, Dorothy (Steve) Fairbanks and Rosemary (Jeff) DeMond. Mac's legacy includes 24 grandchildren, 15 grandchildren-in-law and 38 great-grandchildren (with four more on the way!). His professional life took him from Utah to Omaha, Nebraska, Wichita, Kansas, Phoenix, Arizona and Tucson, Arizona, where he and Audrey spent over 25 very happy years. In retirement Mac and Audrey moved to Salt Lake and then to Meridian, Idaho. Mac returned to Utah after Audrey's death living with daughter, Barbara until his illness required residence at North Canyon Care Center – where he passed away. The family is extremely grateful to the dedicated and exceptional staff at North Canyon Care Center and Vista Care Hospice. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Farmington South Stake Center, 695 S. 200 East, Farmington, Utah. A Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and the Funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah, at approximately 4:00 that afternoon. While we truly appreciate flowers if you would like to remember Mac with a donation to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints the family would be honored. I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Mac and Aunt Audrey and all the cousins. I most remember the love of family that radiated from both of them. I am saddened by the loss but, rejoice at knowing that Uncle Mac and Aunt Audrey are together. It lightens my heart also to know that they are with Cory as well. What a celebration in Heaven they are having.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I can see Mac, Audrey, Jan and John Tolson all together having their own "Food Club" with lots of goodies prepared by Audrey. They are having a great time. We have so many memories. One...we were all on a house boat on Lake Powell. We each had our own water cup with our name on it. Mac's blew overboard as we were going up the channel. We traveled on up the lake. Next day as we were coming back, there bounching along in the waves was a cup. We fished it out, and it had Mac's name on it. So funny. We love all of you. Know that you are in our prayers. Love and hugs...can't be with you Sat. only in spirit.

To the family of Mac Read my wife Mary and I send our deepest condolences. We are sure that he and Audrey are having a great reunion. Mac was my first missionary companion in Punxsutawsney, Pa and we had a great time working and living together as companions. Mac had a great spirit about him and he was fun to be with. His spirit lasted to the very end even with the difficult circumstances he had to live with as he endured to the end.
I remember his spirit showing through the last time I was able to converse with him on the phone even though communication was difficult for him.
We regret that we will be unable to attend services for Mac as Mary/s health problems preclude our traveling.
May the Lord ever bless you all with comfort and the knowledge that you are descendants of a great man and a true disciple of Christ.

Remembering what great people Mac and Audrey were to the teenagers in the Browning Ward in the 50"s, of which Karon Arbon and me, Bonnie McFall, were part of. Mac also supervised and helped us as we printed up the ward program each Sunday. We also did some babysitting for them. They were great people.
