Viola Mattox Obituary

MATTOX, Viola (Vi), born Viola Vesta Vance near Okanogan, WA on June 22, 1922. On September 26, 2010 she joined her husband of 53 years, Causey Wade Mattox in heaven. Wade died on February 16, 2010. Viola graduated from high school in Priest River, ID and later graduated from Northwest Business College in Spokane, WA. She worked in the insurance industry in Tacoma, WA where she was President of the Insurance Professionals and later the Corresponding Secretary of the National Association of Insurance Women. After marring C. Wade Mattox in 1957 they moved to Portland and then to Dayton, OR where they operated the Mattox Insurance Agency. In Dayton she was active in Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls. Vi and Wade enjoyed the ocean and spent much of their time in Oceanside, OR and later in Port Townsend, WA. They spent several summers cruising the San Juan Islands and the inside passage. They moved to Tucson, AZ and in 1988 purchased a home in Sun City Vistoso. Vi was very active in Sun City government. She was also involved in the local Bridge clubs and served as Director of the Duplicate Bridge Group. Vi volunteered as a tax preparer helping many families in the Sun City Community. Vi is survived by her brother, Clarence Dale Vance of Tucson; sons, Larry Wear of Chico, CA, Greg Mattox of Tucson; daughters, Linda Ray of Portland, OR, Pam Fife and Debbie Kiesel of Spokane, WA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Vi and Wade requested no services; their ashes will be spread by their children in Oregon. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
