Alice Hunt Obituary

Alice Marcia Harvey Hunt died peacefully at Dominion Village in Williamsburg on Friday, December 17, 2010. She was born July 3, 1916 in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the daughter of Chandler Cushman Harvey and Lena Osgood Harvey, and was predeceased by her brothers, Dr. Thomas Harvey and Kingdon Harvey, her sister, Helen Harvey Thompson, and her husband, William Scott Hunt. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Lee Hunt DeRevere Bakie (Gordon); Martha Hunt Dinsmore (David); Cynthia Hunt Lowery (Grover) and Kingdon Harvey Hunt (Teresita) and 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Alice attended the University of Maine in Orono, ME, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Growing up in a newspaper family (her father was owner and editor of the Fort Fairfield Review), she held various newspaper and reporting jobs and passed on to her family her love of reading and writing.

Alice was married on June 16, 1936 in Fort Fairfield, Maine and moved to Mt. Washington, MA. She made homes for her family in Housatonic, Great Barrington and Sheffield, MA and Valley Springs, CA. She moved to Williamsburg, VA in 1997.

She will be remembered for her love of music, her kindness to people and animals and her talent to make any house a home. Her children feel blessed that their parents instilled in them a sense of self worth, with no pressure to succeed, only encouragement to do their best. Her grandchildren cherish the memories of family holiday gatherings at their grandparents' home.

Her family will gather to celebrate her life at the beach in NC in May. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Fort Fairfield Public Library, 339 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742.
