I respected Dorothy so much! I am so glad I got to know her in the last couple years, I wish we had more time, but there is never enough. I hope she knew how much she meant to me. I miss her answering the phone, I needed the consistency in my life, especially, from such an inspiring lady. We used to laugh about how much mileage her rocking chair would get, we laughed all the time. What a loss! She was living history, bright, intelligent, entertaining all wrapped up in a tough little package. I only wish I got to come over and have that slumber party for our birthdays and make her a tropical smoothie in a pineapple. I love you aunt Dorothy!

We always knew Dorothy as "Betty" Blackwell. She was the mother of my childhood friend, Barbara, and I spent many a day in their house on Date Street where it seemed little sister Beverly was always baking cookies. She was a wonderful mother and all the kids on the block were always welcome in her home. We lived across the street. After all these years, I was surprised to learn that she was born in Dallas, where I have lived for the last 20 years. I always just assumed she was from Hawaii. Guess life always goes in a full circle. My condolences to both Beverly and Bobby, on the loss of both your mother and your brother. Your mother was a wonderful woman. Jeanie (Larrabee) Gibson

Dorothy was an unforgettable person. Dorothy enrolled in my Speech class at Oxnard College in the 1980's. I'll always remember the first night of class she told us that she'd been away from school for 49 years; however she promised her niece (sorry, can't remember her niece's name) that she'd attend college with her niece. Her niece had graduated from ( I believe) Hueneme H.S.that spring, and together they began college. Dorothy regaled us with stories about Pearl Harbor and living through the depression. Dorothy's family is so fortunate to have had her, and thank you for sharing Dorothy with us as she was an inspiration to all, especially mature students returning to school after years away.

What a grand lady, Dorothy was the mother of my childhood friend Brad. She cared for me when I fell off of a truck and almost killed myself in front of her house. I have always called her on Christmas and up till a few years ago I would receive a Christmas card from Hawaii. She was a dear, dear lady and is now in the hands of her Lord.. God Bless...Dave

Dorothy, I don't even have to ask or wonder if you made it to Heaven, U are now an angel as you were here on earth. I am so sorry we never got the chance to take that cruise in my Mustange convertable. You had such a wonderful way about you and were loved by so many both young and old. RIP my friend. Lori B
