Mr Dominik,

Wicked the movie is coming out this year. Wicked always reminds me of you; I remember you would play some of the songs in class/show it on the tv. Anyway, I´ll be watching the movie in memory of you, just like I did with Les Miserables.

Something made me search in September of 2017 for Carl Dominik. My mom had passed in July of 2017 and I think I was just remembering all the good influences my mom exposed us to and Mr. Dominik was one of them. So I started writing a message on September 4th and could not finish it; most likely the feelings were fresh. Now I wish I knew what my thoughts were, so here it is: My mother always spoke highly of Mr. Dominik, as we knew him by. He taught me how to read music and play the piano. Although I never stuck to the piano, his teaching and discipline will always remain in me. I recall my mom driving me to his studio in Walnut one evening for a recital after I had just gotten some sort of shot (vaccination) as an adolescent. I was nervous already and extra shaky from the shot but Mr. Dominik said I did fine. My brother and I also took lessons from him at Mt. Sac. We all graduated from Mt. Sac at one point and a few of us from Cal Poly. At least once a year, my mom would....(so that is all I wrote and I believe I was meant to say that she would mention his name to me and how wonderful he was. Thank you Mr. Dominik!

Its 2017, 13 years since I graduated and said goodbye to my 4 amazing years of being his student, concert choir, womens choir, vocal ensemble, acapella choir, musical theatre, his T.A., I mean I think his class (1 year I had him 4 periods lol) was the only class I had perfect attendance in. Anyway, 13 years later and I find myself, like i have for 10 years now, singing to my youngest of four, my 6 month old, rocking him to sleep, singing the lullabies I learned from Mr. Dominik, tearing up, hally memories, beautiful memories of my favorite teacher sitting at his piano dipping his cheetos in his Dr Pepper, smiling, laughing, and teaching us about having passion for the path we choose, he seemed so sincerely happy like he enjoyed what he got to do for a living, he cared about all of us, adopted those who needed a father figure, best friend to those who needed a confidant, and tole model for those of us who had no one else to look up to. He was amazing, greatly missed, and never forgotten.

Mr. Dominik,
He was and always will be my favorite teacher. His choir class will always be one of my favorite classes. I was always so excited to go to his class and sing. It was the only class i would really look forward to in high school. I am thankful to have been taught and to have sung for him.
I love you Mr. Dominik, and i will always cherish the memories that i have had with you.

My first semester out of high school brought me to Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) in the Fall semester of 1983. I enrolled in a beginning piano class that semester, and my instructor was Carl Dominik. I remember a very entertaining and enlightening teacher who made the learning process fun, and somehow made the task of learning piano scales and fingerings seem easy and effortless. It was many years ago, but I remember him very well. I never saw him again after that semester, but he left a very favorable impression on an 18 year old kid studying piano for the first time, and I will always be grateful for his support and encouragement. R.I.P.

I connected with Carl through our mutual love of music and bicycles.Though I wasn't a student of his, i was constantly learning from him, amazed at the depth and breadth of his knowledge. He was an exceptionally compassionate, strong, generous and caring person. I knew since i met him three years ago that he had cancer, but he seemed so strong and full of life and energy that his illness was never very real to me. I am so shocked at his sudden downturn, because only a few days before he was hospitalized he had done another one of his "monster" bicycle rides. Speaking to him on the phone, he sounded as strong as ever, except for his stomach complaints. I'm not sure if he knew how much i loved and cared for him, but i did. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and three children, who i know he loved very much and was incredibly proud of. Rest in peace Carl, the world is a much darker place today. Love Always.

I was a troubled teenager. I was suicidal, a run away and a teen mom. Mr. Dominik was my teacher. I know I was a challenge to him. He did his best to not judge and to have an open door ear and heart. His class was one of my only escapes. I always felt welcome, safe and free there. He made me feel as if I belonged somewhere. He knew that even though my life was in a tail spin that with faith, guidance and love I could survive and thrive. I am truly grateful. I don't know if he ever knew what happened to me but I wish I would have told him. I live in Florida wit my husband and 3 kids 14,10 and 5 years old. I am a Special Education teacher and I always make sure I give of myself as he did to me. Thank you Mr. Dominik for helping me be who I am. I pray I can be half the teacher you were. I love you. God Bless you and your family.

I met him through a mutual friend when he learned I have cancer. He encouraged me to be positive with my cancer. He was so healthy, riding bikes many miles till a few months ago. I'm just so shocked. How could this happen so quickly. He was so kind and encouraging me. I will miss him so much. Life is not fair, so sad.

Mr. Dominik is the biggest influence in my life. He has taught me so much. He changed my attitude for the better and made me understand my potential. He didn't cut me any slack I was always working hard when he said to. He encouraged me to sing at games and show off the talent given to me. You should never waste your talent and he was good at teaching lessons like that. Mr. D was hard headed and believed in himself and his students. without his teachings I would not be as confident as i am today with my singing. I still have much to learn, and I feel that no one will be able to teach me like he did. He was also my friend he gave me someone I could trust and talk to. We also shared a few laughs. I miss you Mr. D it's so hard to know that I can't walk into class and tell you what's going on. You have touched my heart. I will never forget you. You are my hero. You fought for soo long I hope you are resting now. Your blondies miss you :) I love you. R.I.P Mr. D

I am very sad to hear about Mr. Dominik's passing. I was in his class all throughout High School. He was a wonderful teacher and encouraged every one of his students. I was incredibly self conscious of my voice when I first entered his classroom and by the time I graduated I had already tried out for a few solos. He will always be a part of my life. Rest in peace Mr. D. I'm sure you're up in Heaven helping the angels sing better.

Mr. Dominik was one of the best teacher's i have ever had and taught me that no matter how hard the challenge is, if you put your mind to it, you will be successful. Mr. Dominik was an amazing choir teacher. Though he made us practice tons before any concert, in the end, we understood why. Sultana's choir will never be the same. May he rest in peace. Prayers go out to his family.

Carl was an amazing man. Although I was not a student of his, he taught me many things, through his compassion, perseverance, and tenacity. He was never one to just let life happen; he was going to be directing his life at every turn. I can only hope that a little of that has rubbed off on me. He blessed many lives in many different ways and is already missed by many. My wish is for peace for his wife and children, of whom he was so proud. Light our way, Carl......your wisdom is missed.

Mr. Dominik was a great friend and an awesome teacher. He was a man who saw the good qualities in his students and encouraged their potential and encouraged them to shine. It was an honor and a privilege to have learned from him, and his teachings will live on in everyone who encountered him. I hope that the choir is awesome, and the bike paths are amazing in heaven!
